I tried this both with a file I created and the example.csv. SD 1.0.5.3 errored out on both occasions. I supplied a log file through the 'online' method...have not had a chance to dissect the problem.
StreetDeck supports importing custom points of interest from generic .csv (comma separated value) files.
The format of the files is as follows... There MUST be a header row. This header row should contain the fields Title, Street, City, State, Zip, Phone, Lat, Long, Category, and Description.
An example CSV POI file is given below:
Example.zip
Title, Street, State, and City are required fields, the rest are optional. Lat and Long stand for Latitude and Longitude and should contain signed decimal coordinates of the latitude and longitude coordinates of the address. If latitude and longitude coordinates are not given (Not Recommended) StreetDeck will attempt to geocode them from the given address data, however, if the address is not contained in the navigation database, the proper coordinates will not be found and the location will not be navigable.
To import a csv file into StreetDeck, you can startup StreetDeck and goto windowed mode (Settings | Toggle Fullscreen), then drag and drop the csv file from windows explorer onto the main streetdeck window. Alternatively, you can place the csv file on a USB thumb drive or CD-Drive, insert the media while StreetDeck is running, then when prompted select the "Custom Point of Interest" item from the auto-insert notification list. A list of CSV files will be present, you can then choose to import all in the current folder or a single one by tapping it.
After importing the CSV file, you can search it by going to the navigation start module, then tap "Create Route" then "Imported POIs". The imported POIs within the specified radius will show up. The POI Types combo box filters the list based on the Category field values found in the database.
FYI: The POI entries are stored in a sqlite database in Documents and Settings\<Current User>\Application Data\StreetDeck\POI.db
The following are the default fields for Category that are understood by StreetDeck:

Is there a POI recommended dump somewhere? Does Microsoft or google have POIs you can download?

Any chance this feature could be modified to accept the destinator type POI for speed cameras (see attached file, i have included the original destinator poi file and a verison i have modified to be compatible with the SD format mentioned above).
It would also be cool if SD could warn you when approaching one of these cameras (say .5mile away or something?)
Nah, it errors out on me as well when trying to import the example.![]()
did anybody ever succed to import custom pois? the error log tells something about "not being able to insert a row into the database". i don't find the above mentioned POI.db database nowhere on my drive. i think this is the cause of the error.
does this have to do with the limited edition? not having the map DVDs delivered?
please help i need to be sure how the navigation module of SD is going to be supported / improved in the future. at the moment it is not completely satisfying /usable compared to other (paid) products.
Wow...last post from GOC on this was from August of 2006. Hopefully if he reads this thread, he'll be able to give us an update. I was about to attempt to import custom POIs when I came across this thread. Glad I waited...

I never tried to import in 1.0.8.1, but recently updated to 1.0.9.8 and I am not able to figure out how to import POIs. Or at least, not able to figure out how to make it work.
I used the example.csv file earlier in this thread and dropped the file onto StreetDeck. It said that it imported one file, but the POI.db file doesn't get updated (file size is zero and last modified date is months ago). I browsed over to Maryland so StreetDeck would think that's where I was.
I can see plenty of POIs for the Waldorf, MD area but not the two in example.csv.
I didn't get any of the errors that other people reported, but didn't appear to get anything accomplished either.
Has anyone been able to import POIs in 1.0.8.1 or 1.0.9.8?
