I have looked at similar mechanisms for replicating the screen over Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth. These are great options, but other than the 'neat' factor, I find that the replicated screen on the mobile is just too small for reading text and certainly using while driving. That was why I went an alternative route which is to create an app that is somewhat 'basic' in its functionality to control the main items you would want to control from a remote device. The more detailed information and manipulation that StreetDeck offers through the normal display/touchscreen is always there to use.

For those of you waiting to be on the BETA list for this app...I am adjusting it to be aligned with 1.0.8.1 as several features were added in this release as well as there were some changes in the lower level API that we use to interface with StreetDeck through the digital mod.

I hope to have a BETA out soon.

For Palm OS or Windows Mobile 5 PDA phone users, you can trial a BETA version of the software at:

This version requires 1.0.8.1 or higher (includes BETA testers for the Phone Bluetooth module).

This version has some basic screens enabled. I have built more, but want to start with a basic set for the Music and Nav functions to get feedback and improve from that baseline.

This interface is not supported through the Bluetooth Phone dongle from MP3Car. It requires a separate, standard bluetooth interface.

Am I missing the .sdc (digital mod) file on the downloads page?

When I download StreetKey (BETA 0.98).sdz it saves as a .zip file then the name of the folder inside there is {457C4C96-8347-4C7E-9F72-CC2D236F680F}

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place?

In the mean time, I'm going to go see if I can figure out how to set-up the bluetooth to work with this that's built into my laptop...

On my laptop, I can only select to set-up the connection for 'Wireless File Transfer'. Is this adequate for this program?

Also, with the program running on my WM5 device (Treo 700wx - Sprint) I keep getting the following Window: The message_box function can not be called from the shutdown function.

I have not tried it on a 700w...I do have a shutdown function in the app that appears to be the problem. Are you able to run the app on the handheld device and then get this message when you exit?

The .sdz should install the plug-in with the GUID address underneath your StreetDeck directory. There is no user interface for the plug-in...it just runs and handles the .NET interface calls from the handheld device. I'll have to double check how I generated the .SDZ file from within the development environment.

You will need a COM port setup on your laptop through bluetooth.
