If you're a do it yourselfer then get off the SD forum and hit the rest of the site. Or better yet, get to work on your medio whatever and post it up for the rest of us to download.
Streetdeck isn't for you. Period. Some people prefer integrated software with ongoing technical support and working navigation. You don't. Get on with your medio front end.

Sorry to the streetdeck guys. it will be open and anyone who wants to help can, Ill start a thread once I have a beta skin ready.
Also you bring a very good point with the "Some people prefer integrated software with ongoing technical support and working navigation."
What about a LITE version with navigation and NO SUPPORT AT ALL.
I know there is lite version already but I dont think it has navigation which is pretty cheese.
Never though I would be put out like this for being a diy'er on these diy type of forums.
I did not "prove' your point. You may think your method is the best for you. It is not the best for everyone.
Do whatever you think you need to, I am not "the man" nor do I wish to be.
You put yourself out... get a better approach.
I do not "see" the value of your current railing against SD or any other perceived injustice you may have.
It isn't because you are diy'er. It is because your message is being delivered with all the grace of an atomic bomb.

3) I didn't like any of the free frontends.
FWIW, that is why I have no problem shelling out $200 for it.
instead of developing a clone skin for a frontend that is retired, why not make one that the masses use? If you are in it for the people and not yourself, then popular vote right? Roadrunner is the most popular free. I would download and test it out perhaps.
I personally would not buy streetdeck at that price, but you know what? They worked damn hard to get this software working. It is the first real commercial frontend. Also nav programs by themselves cost a hundred dollars or so. And like Centrafuse (Which incase you havent checked it out, is priced at $350 for the full version which is compareable to Streetdeck) most of the money goes to microsoft for the map liscensing. Or at least that is what the centrafuse people say.
And tech support isn't free either.
I am no Streetdeck fan, or consumer in the near future or any future because I am a cheap bastard, but they did a good job, and these threads just need to stop. The more time they waste here, the less time they have to make fixes to the code.
FYI, working on my own front end, cause none will work the exact way I want.
Are you serious? If you don't want to spend $200, don't. Really the only thing I know about SD is the name and that it has nav, but I know this, if you don't want to buy it, don't. If you think you can do something better, do it. If you want to sell it for less, knock yourself out.
$200 is expensive, but not by any means crazy for software, especially something as specialized as this. The smaller the target audience for a piece of software and the more specific the use, the cost is always going to be higher than something that appeals to everybody. Just the economy of scale. Hell, I've had to pay more than that for a complete and current list of US postcodes, and that's just public data which by all rights should be public.
And while there probably isn't a lot of overhead in media duplication, you have to get paid for your time (if you want to make a living), Navigation data isn't free (not any complete datasets anyway that I'm aware of), you need to license it, there's a chunk of that $200.
Dunno how many developers work on SD, but let's say they've sold 500 copies to date. Ok, so $100,000. Not retiring but not too bad, though of course you're selling to a limited audience, so at some point, your sales will probably trail off.
Now let's say the nav data is $20 a seat, so $10K, ok so you got $90k, still not too bad. Oh wait, taxes.... make that $55-60K. Now divide that by however many developers there are.
Oh, don't forget support costs and other related expenses. Now, I'm just guesstimating on numbers here, while I don't doubt they are doing ok, I doubt the SD developers are waist deep in cash from it. Nothing wrong with making a good living.
I have roadrunner and I tried several skins and I just dont think its capable of doing all the cool transitions and stuff that meedio can do, and like I said meedio is just dead easy to work with.

Im saying that the target audience is bigger then you are trying to make it out.
The target audience would be everyone with a car pc if the price wasnt so high and thats my point. I like the software alot from the copy that Ive been using and think they would sell to just about everyone ifn they lowered their price. In the meantime Ill make my clone for the masses and probably switch between the two until my clone is on par with the original.
Lets start a new poll...
Whos tired of people starting polls about street deck's price?
There's a free trial dude.
try it....if you dont feel its worth the money
DONT BUY IT
you starting a poll is NOT going to make SD just lower the price.
No offense on your intelligence but that was the most idotic thing I have ever heard.
