Streetdeck is the best frontend and it is amazing how it is improving. Their developers are doing a great job. Streetdeck will just continue to get better in each update. Come on guys, Streetdeck is reasonable at $200 dollars with all the features that it includes. you double park in NYC for a second or park farter than 3 feet from the side-walk and that is about 75% of the cost of streetdeck (about $125)
Hey man I agree, It rocks
It definetly ROCKS. I was just saying I bet that if they lowered the price it would send the sales through the roof and they would make even more money now because I am certain there is alot of people that want the software after checking out the trial but cant justify the $200 price tag when there is alot of free front ends that are near as good.
Im about done with this thread since its not going anywhere and is just going down hill rapidly so Ill let the poll run and we can kinda see what happens from there although Im sure it would be better if I posted this elsewhere since obviously in the streetdeck section there will be more fan bois.
Microsoft Map Point cost
Those things aren't free.
The price difference between the full and the lite version should give you an idea as to the cost of the navigation and voices on our end...
Heck, never mind the fact that there are a ton of folks who buy this software who don't even spend any time on these forums...why? They bought a CarPC from a Car Audio shop and had it installed. They wanted it to be seamless and didn't want to spend the time researching how to put a PC in their car.
Bascially, what you're telling us here at StreetDeck, is that those people who work at this company, don't deserve to get paid? Those that have families don't deserve to support their families? Chuck, who has spent YEARS developing this software, doesn't deserve any kind of recognition or repayment for his time and efforts? Those of us who spend countless hours trying to make this forum a better place, modifying the forums to allow for bug reporting, answering emails, and spending time on threads like this...don't deserve any kind of acknowledgement for our time?
Do you really think that coming into this forum with such a hostile attitude right out of the box is going to get anything done? Perhaps if you had come on here with at least an attitude that you were willing to talk, you might have been recieved differently. Instead, you came on here swinging...ready to knock someone out without caring who it was.
Just one question, how old are you?
Of course it's not going anywhere...
What did you expect when you post a rant that does nothing except whine about the price?
As a software dev, you must understand the licensing of all the functionality that goes into the software. You call up MicroShaft and ask them how much it would cost you to use the MapPoint data and navigation engine in a third-party app.
How much is it to icense MP3 playback these days?
Those costs have to be passed along to the end-user, plain and simple. They can't be given away. It's not like they could sell the software at less than cost and recoup the cost elsewhere.
Selling hardware (particularly computer hardware) doesn't make money. The margins are so razor thin, that the only way to make money is on software
I am going to have to agree and disagree
i see what you are doing with the comments about getting them to drop there price. You might also be right about if they did drop there price they would probably sell 2 times as much or more and if enough people make lots of noise about it they will have a couple of looks at selling it at a lower cost. I personnally agree it is overpriced.
They are trying to run a business and making 10 % off a product is
Very Bad for business. I am sure they pay a good amount for the NAV
Licenses. Centrafuse is selling there base model for 125 with out built in nav
and you can use what ever nav you want. But with nav it is 325 which sounds crazy but they say it is all the fees for the engine.
now if it was a 1 man show just selling software from his basement im sure he could afford to sell it for $50.00 but start adding a rent for the building
salaries for other designers and $200.00 sounds cheap i am sure they are not selling 100 000 copies where they can then consider to drop there prices or they would. From over the years they have been pretty good at giving the best prices on the market
i think its possibly a little overpriced
i cant find anything that works as well, so i bought it
If it was just to tell the SD people they don't know marketing, you should have used different arguments, and another tone.
You state that SD is not worth the price. If you know economics, a statement like that isn't worth anything. It doesn't have anything to do with weight, hours put in, color, etc.. but everything with market value.
You say the SD people are out of their mind, they are on drugs etc... that doesn't sound very mature.
Now if you say sales would go through the roof if prices were lowered - that MEIGHT be the case, but it's not sure, it's your guess. It could also be that you are taking drugs that impair your sense of judgement, who knows?
Four times the sales to have the same income, but also four times the support (if they sold it for $50 like you propose), four times al lot of other costs.
Only the SD staff can calculate how much more sales they would need to make it more profitable, but my guess is: a lot.
You can't just apply the experiences you had with the gaming community (much younger people), providing some plugins and bots (not a complete package of software, containing official maps), with the very different carpc market.
You cannot compare SD to RR or Media portal/Meedio as NONE OF THESE come with official maps and/or support for a lot of the features you are claiming are so easily integrated.
It's like going to a Ferrari dealership and demanding they sell you a car for a ridiculous price, just because you can buy some kit to convert a camaro that will look the same from a distance, after having put in many hours, without guarantee it will work, without decent warranty - but very cheap
And even if you want the SD guys to sell just to cover costs, to help the people, for fun, not for the money - that is what you should do then, but you can't demand that from other people :hippie:
As I noticed you changed your tone a lot from your first post, I guess you understand a lot of my points already, but it couldn't hurt to be a little less stubborn :peace:
