I know it has been mentioned before but I wanted to again point out the importance (in my opinion) of slider controls to navigate through the very large music folders.
I would think that a pretty wide slider (maybe the size of the volume contol indicator) on the "Qued music" interface running up and down the right side of the monitor would be very beneficial for the following reasons
A. The user can run their finger up and down along the right side of the bezel in order to navigate through the folder by relying on touch only (just run your finger along the bezel) so you dont have to take your eyes oft he road
B. Navigation to the middle of a folder that contains 1000 songs for example, now becomes a one touch deal, rather than having to keep pressing down on the arrow or on the remote control
C. The slider position and therefore the position of a particular song in the folder becomes immediately visible so that the next time you need to navigate to that song you can pretty much guess the approximate position of it in the slider and once you get close you can use the up and down arrows to navigate to it
D. One look at the slider can provide you with an approximation of the number of songs remaining in the que
I think there is enough space on the screen for a slider on the right side but if you think it will use up screen real estate maybe we can have one that retracts after a period of time (like the volume control)
If others share my opinion please chime in with suggestions
thank you :)
Sliders sounds good...not sure if it's the perfect thing, but we all know we need SOMETHING to be able to scroll more efficiently through the artist / song lists.
...as long as the slider doesn't require constant touch to move it. The vibration of car sometimes makes it difficult to maintain constant touch while sliding a finger across the screen. If the slider could be positioned anywhere by one touch, then it would seem that's a good solution.
Well I agree with S4Per. I don't know if sliders is the optimum way but having 1000 artists and 3500 songs makes it difficult to scroll down by pressing a button
How about gesturing the first letter of an artist/song or album name over the music module? Something like we have for our contacts in our mobile phones...
Well to be honest I have tried doing that a couple of times on SD when I was abstracted as I was used to it from my Pocket PC. Of course with no results!

All of these suggestions are probably useful if implemented correctly. I don't understand why they couldn't all be made to work, and the end user allowed to chose the method most to his liking. The graphic elements for the slider and the gesture are already in place, and the feature itself seems to be highly requested, and an obvious enhancement:
- The two primary functions of SD are navigation and playing media
- Since a media item that has a title that begins with the letter "s" is MORE likely than a media item with a title that beings with "k", it doesn't really make sense to force an user to repeately scroll past the A-->R items EVERY TIME to reach the "s" entries. The "s" items should be equally accessible (don't understand? Watch the bonus round of Wheel of Fortune on TV and contemplate why the show automatically supplies the contestants with the letters "C", "M", and "D" before allowing them to guess).
- This feature has been requested mutiple times by multiple users...the digital equivalent of independent evolution in biology (an example of which would be how wings evolved independently in both insects and birds...because it was the best solution to a commonly encounted evolutionary pressure).
- It doesn't require hardware development to implement (*cough, bluetooth, *cough*, FM radio, *cough*)
Seems like a feature that should make the next release to me. :-)
This won't work really for the music module or now the queue music module, because you cannot assume that the current queue is sorted alphabetically !

I mainly use auto playlists, I love them :) For me it's one of the most important and outstanding feature of SD and WMP.
I think a gesture can work in the add artist and add album...
In music probably only a slider would work, but lets decide chuck ;) I'm sure he longer thinks about it and knows there is a need of it.
But strange, that it lasts so long... hmmm.
