Several bugs (I think?) and some suggestions and thoughts

Well, after using the 1.0.8.1 update for about a month now, I've got a few thoughts (I upgraded from 1.0.6.3, FYI).

First, several bugs (which I suppose I should add to the bug list, but I wanted to make sure I'm not just missing something obvious with all of these).

    1. I can't set my Home location after the upgrade. That option is missing now?
    2. I can't seem to add locations to my Favorites list anymore, either.
    3. Nav animation seems a lot jerkier / clunkier for some reason. When I'd take a turn in 1.0.6.3, the map would display a smooth rotation for the screen. With 1.0.8.1, it seems to reorient in a series of jerks...kind of weird. Minor bug, but still...
    4. My USB OBD-II COM Port is not available for some reason in SD, though it shows up in Device Manager, and in the Device Configuration when you go to Settings. It launches an external COM port "chooser" app, but when I set it correctly there, SD doesn't seem to care, it only sees the USB-to-Serial port for my GPS device.

Anyone else have any of these issues? I had a problem where SD crashed MAJORLY and as it happened 1.0.8.1 was released the next day, so I wound up uninstalling, cleaning out the registry, and then reinstalling SD and MapPoint from scratch. It fixed the issues I was having with MapPoint, and overall I'm liking the new look and feel, but these things are kind of annoying...

And a question for you guys: wouldn't it be nice to have an "Add this Location to my Favorites" button on the main Nav screen, or maybe on the GPS "compass" screen? It would seem to make sense to me to do it with one touch.

Also, it seems like Music navigation has gotten a little worse in this iteration of SD. I do like the main features listed on the main Music module; those are great. I'd like to see a few additions to the Main music module. The "Find Music by this Artist" would be nice to have there, for instance. Also, it would be great if the focus could automatically shift to the current song in the queue when the song changes, rather than some arbitrary spot at the end of the queue, as seems to be the case.

    Thoughts? comments?

To set the home location you have to use the "H" button when viewing a found address. This didn't change and still works the same.

To add a favorite location, find an address, then scroll down in the list to the option to add to favorites.

GPS smoothing didn't change. Do you have the checkbox selected to enable GPS smoothing in navigation settings?

Run with the -allcomm command line parameter and StreetDeck will allow you to select any possible COMM port number.

There is a function called "NAV Add current GPS location to Favorites". Bind a gesture, key, or add a button to the skin if you want to use this functionality.

If you do Music search it will already search for both Artists and songs that contain the specified letters.

    OBD-II issue fixed...others remain...

Hey GoC, thanks for taking a look at my list. So the "smooth Nav" checkbox is checked, but appears not to be working.

A minor note. I was unable to see the GPS smoothing option in settings at all until I opened the Default skin in Dev mode and it made a new copy. Suddenly the option appeared again after that!

But I still can't add Favorite locations. That option isn't available on any menu. Weird.

Finally, I still can't add a Home location. When I add a route to an address, I never get an option to add it as Home anywhere.

    Thoughts?

    "Find Music by Artist" idea

oh, and what I meant by the "Find Music by Artist" idea:

In 1.0.6.3, when a song was playing there was a button on the main Music module to "Find Songs by This Artist" which you'd hit and it would create a new playlist of songs by that artist. I agree, that functionality is kind of a part of the search function, but that's only after you run a search--not the safest thing to do when you're driving, you know? But sometimes you want to hear more music by a particular artist when that comes up on your playlist...and it was nice to have that button to hit.

I'll try and create that "Add to Favorites" button in the skin...I don't have much experience with that kind of thing yet, but I guess it's time to learn!

The button is still there under the now playing module.
