Map data on different partition?

I'm quickly running out of room on my system partition and would like to put my my map data on my data partition. Can I do this, and if so, what do I do to direct Streetdeck to the new location as opposed to the default?

I know this is not exactly what you are asking, but.... What I do is have 2 partitions one exclusively for Windows and the other for all CarPC related stuff. Music, Videos, Frontends, etc. That way you can have the Windows partition small (about 6-10GB) and dedicate the rest to other stuff, also you don't have to worry about losing any configs if you need to reformat (assuming you redirect My Documents, etc)

As far as a postmortem move you wish to do, I am guessing that if you just reinstall MapPoint on to another partition it will be happy. Theoretically you could just move it and then update all registry references, but that's alot of work.

Yeah, believe it or not, my system is set up that way and I'm still running out of room on my system partition. All my music/videos/pics and other media are all on my data partition. The maps and voices take up almost 2gb, and I don't even have enough space left on my drive to hibernate after installing the maps.

I do get the choice where to install SD when installing from the DVD, but it just install everything (program, maps, voices) to where you tell it at the beginning of the install. I would assume the program itself needs to be on the system drive. I wish you could choose separate install paths for program, maps, and voices since they are so big.

So anyway, my question is still open if anyone can help me...

I actually run (well used to, I am in the process of rebuilding the PC) SD from a non system partition. The only things I have on my system/boot/windows partition is Windows and drivers, everything else goes to my super special E: partition. So you should be able to install SD onto your "other" partition without troubles. I have Centrafuse running the same way.

Also, you can free up some space by moving your pagefile from the system to the "other" partition in the System Control panel.

Thanks for the tips. If I can run SD from my data partition then that solves my problem. I assumed it had to be run from the system partition. Good to hear that it works that way too.

The pagefile.sys file can be moved? I thought that was definitely locked to the system drive. I know that hiberfil.sys (the hibernate file) definitely is.

On XP: right click on My Computer->Properties->Advanced. Click the Settings button in the Performace box, select advanced tab, click Change, Customize paging files there. Naturally, you will have to reboot for this to take effect.

I am not sure about the hibernation file, but I am pretty sure you are right that it can't be moved. Although there might be an XP boot option that can change that.

Thanks for your tips. I just installed SD on my data partition and all seems well so far.

I knew about adjusting the pagefile, but I always thought that screen was just showing the other partitions for informational purposes (i.e. if you have a dual-boot system).
