How soon is "soon" for the traffic mod?

I bought Streetdeck on the premise the the traffic feature would be available "soon" as stated on the website and it is far beyond soon now, with no resolution in sight. I feel like I got duped. Features shouldn't be advertised if they can't be delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

We have had a few problems implementing traffic as fast as we would like:

    1. Different types of traffic data
    a. Incident reports
    b. Flow reports
    2. Different sources/vendors of traffic data
    3. Different delivery methods of traffic data
    a. EVDO
    b. Wifi Sync
    c. Other wireless transmission methods.
    4. Licensing costs & restrictions of traffic data
    5. Displaying traffic data in the UI and influencing routing decisions based on this data.

When we originally demoed traffic for the first time we thought it would have moved much faster into production. Hopefully this will be fully integrated by the end of the year. This timeline still depends on us dealing with the 5 items above. We are doing our best to implement this in a functional method traffic this hasnít been forgotten.

I'm sure that you guys are working hard at it.

It just sounds like that traffic is a strong possibility in the not so short term future, banking on ability to get licensing and working out decisions that need to be made.

I would have likely have opted to spend my money on a different front end at the end of the demo, had the Streetdeck site not said "soon" on the traffic, and stated more accurately "in development, possible ETA 2008. It's an important feature to some of us.

I havent heard on traffic updates or even bluetooth updates. Bluetooth was another important feature for myself, but I am not sure if it's even being kicked around anymore?

Of course BT is being worked on. Unfortunately, there are a number of issues with implementing BT phone support that requires some time to work out. It's not a simple feature to implement.

Check out a program called Mobiledit, it will Connect your phone via bluetooth and you can manage calls, voicemail, SMS messages, get alerts when mail arrives on your phone and manage your address book. it even integrates with outlook. i am still using the trial version and it works great with a belkin usb bluetooth adapter. I assume it works with any bluetooth adapter on the market and the list of compatible phones is endless. Maybe someone can make a mod so this can be integrated into SD? that would be awesome to be able to see who is calling and get my messages on the SD screen when they arrive.

We hope to make a traffic announcement before the end of the year.

I know you guys are working hard on it..but those things are part of the development process. They should have been expected. You don't advertise traffic option as being "soon" and then realize that there are all these other things you need to do to make it work.

I know this stuff takes time, development..staging..QA..bugs. However I think advertising it as "soon" was a false advertisement.

Other than that, I love SD. and I love using it. Keep up the good work.
