    Weird SD Demo Navigation problem?

    New member here. I just got all my carputer stuff together, and am bench-testing it all. I purchased a copy of MS Mappoint 2006, and have a BU-353 GPS module. Mappoint works as it should. GPS works fine as well, albeit choppy? I'm new to GPS completely. Not to the concept, just to the quirks.

    I'm running on Windows XP SP2, and Streetdeck installs apropriately. I'm running the latest version (1.1.0.0) as far as I know. I just upgraded from 1.0.9.8, but still get the same problem.

    This is what I see when I get into the navigation plugin in SD:

    It looks like it got the map, but is horribly stretched/zoomed? DVD playback also looked like this kinna sorta. I figured mabye they were limitations of the demo software?

    Also, when I just upgraded to 1.1.0.0, it said that I had 0 days left on my trial. and then it wouldnt run again. said trail expired. I DID have 28 days left. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, at no avail. Now i'm completely locked out.

    I really like how SD looks. I have ALL the equipment hooked up, configured, and ready to go, but I can't get an actual feel for it myself. Those are key features, that before I drop 200 on, I would like to try in person. CF 1.2 Demo works beautifuly. Even with Mappoint plugin.

    Any ideas? I really want to like SD and have no hesitations spending the money on it instead of CF.

    There have been issues with the demo timing out early in the past...if you look around, you'll find threads on how to get it working again...but it requires removing all references to SD in the registry, if I remember correctly.

    No help with the video issue, but those are not trial limitations. I would make sure you have all the SD dependencies installed (like direct X, etc.). There's a thread with that info in the FAQ section in this forum (and I think it has the word "dependencies" in it). That's where I'd start.

    Thanks for the tip about the registry. That is what I would usually suspect, but it hardly ever works with most applications. Anyhow, I was successful in my attempt. The demo is now coming up telling me i have 30 days. Unfortunately, the map still looked as it does above. I swear, its pulling the map. I can zoom out, and see different colors that would be highways and other various lines. Its even fixed on my GPS location! I uninstalled Mappoint 2k6, and am in the process of re-installing it as I type this. Hopefully that will do the trick.

    I forgot to mention. I have the 'Academic' copy (legal) of Mappoint 2k6. Would that make any difference? i'm updating video drivers. but only other thing I can think of would be direct-x. which is installed and working fine. Its 3d tests all go fine.

    I think that SD officially supports Mappoint 2004 only...check the forums.

    What are the software dependencies of StreetDeck?

    StreetDeck has a number of required and optional dependencies in order to work properly. When purchasing a complete StreetDeck system, all these dependencies are already installed with the system. You will only need to download and install these if installing StreetDeck on a non-preconfigured system.

    NOTE: The bold items in the list below are required, all others are optional, but may limit the functionality of StreetDeck if not installed

    * Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or Windows VISTA
    * Microsoft DirectX9
    * Microsoft Windows Media Player 11
    * Ffdshow Divx Codecs
    * Fraunhoffer DVD codec
    * Navigation Data (Supports Microsoft Mappoint 2004 or 2006 - if you purchased the full version of StreetDeck, this is included with your DVD)
    * Microsoft Speech SDK
    * Itunes for iPod integration
    * Yahoo! Music for Internet radio

    I was thinking along those lines already. I just updated to the latest video drivers, and then at first the map wouldn't come up at all. just white. I exited SD and next time I saw the same ol streched map i've been seeing. Anyhow, it was a change.

    Now that i've read that thread you linked to, I see that i'm not alone, theres even a picture posted in there of someone having the exact same issue. They also are linking this to the same SiS Mirage on-board video card. So does that really mean im SOL? I wouldn't know how to use a different video card in the carputer form-factor. CF does work, but I REALLY don't like the $300 pricetag, and the Mappoint plugin is pathetic. the iGuidance plugin looks OK, but then theres another $120-130 easy. I prefer SD. I hope theres something I can do to get around this.

    On another note. I'm on a mission to make this damn thing work. I busted out a laptop running xp_sp2, and installed mappoint first, then just installed SD. I fire up SD, config everything it prompts during inital startup, including pointing it to the com port my working gps module is connected at. I get to the main menu, and where the navi button should be, it says un-bound button!
    ^^^Update^^^ I re-installed the mappoint on the laptop, and now SD navigation option came up. and works like a charm. Very nice. Unfortunately, it still cant work on my carputer (videocard), so I don't know if I want to invest in it just yet.

    Thanks for that link! i'll be posting in there and letting them know about my HW and that i'm in the same boat. I spose' i'll get to setting up my CarPC specs too. :P

    Apparently I was looking in the wrong direction...glad your problem was at least identified, if not resolved.

    I believe both systems had mappoint and SD installed in the same order with the same options. Mappoint2k6 works fine on the laptop. GPS and all.

    I might be wrong (again), but I believe that other users have had similar experience with the unbound button issue. IIRC, it has to do with SD not recognizing that MP is installed, or MP not being installed "correctly" (as in where SD expects it to be).

    You can also change how certain buttons are bound by going to the screen with the list of all modules (can't remember where that screen is exactly, as I have a custom skin), and then pressing and holding on the name of the module that you'd like to bind to a particular button. I don't have SD in front of me, so I can't describe the exact process, but it's something similar to the above.

    No resolution to the whole video chipset problem as of yet. I posted my lil story, and a screencap, and a bunch of logs. I think DVD playback is afflicted by the same problem.

    What video card are you using? This is most like a video card support issue probably because it does not support the required texture size. If you are seeing any map at all, it is most likely not a mappoint issue.
