That one would be good, but I don't even know where to begin on that one... You would have to know every street you are going to be on from start to finish and then based on that pull in traffic data based on all those streets - has that been done in RR?

there are two that were abandoned by the OP which looked very promising: the gas mileage one and the speed based volume control. nothing outrageous in terms of features, but useful.

aside from those two, i'd like a rhapsody one...just an easy front end for searching rhapsody.

In RR using the DFX 3.0 skin thats not fully out yet, you can use an album view like this

Then when it comes to net radio via celluar card or wifi hotspot, you can use it to listen to any predefined .m3u that you have set for any type of music that you set.

In this particular screen shot, I have selected CHILL

    which is a shoutcast stream.

RR uses winamp which is soo nice in flexibilty terms. In RR you can even pipe the xm into winamp to use the eq with it.

The Jukebox is a part of the skin that allows you to search for a song and save it to you hdd using http://www.seeqpod.com/music/

Dont get me wrong I like SD and wish I could use it more, but its somewhat slower on my system than RR and I can do more with RR. I really want to use SD cause its snazier and prettier, but lacks some of the functions I enjoy from RR with skins.

Lately SD has made me angry more times than happy and I am currently back to using RR.

Sometimes SD would hang after coming back from standby, and it would know that it had hung, close it self, then on relaunch it would complain that it needed to run the default skin. I dont use anything else other than that, except I change a few buttons to have digital mods and dvd on from screen, anyways it complains and crashes and relaunched and then the wizard wanted to start up. W T F>? Why must this happen? My setttings are saved to the hdd and this should never come up again. This is what ****es me off sometimes and I want to road rage out on people.

The wizard thing... isn't that specific to the demo, or is this happening on a purchased version?

WINAMP... I'd be willing to bet, given the new programmers access to the media functionality in SD, that it would be easy to port winamp in (of course this would require WINAMP running in the background and would assume that winamp has an SDK compatible with .NET)...

Yes my SD is paid now, and in RR winamp runs hidden in the background.

i don't tread these parts much and my experience with SD was very short and limited, but the thread topic caught my eye, and im little bored.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents on my limited knowledge of how SD works, and im sure some things have prob changed since i last demoed it.

But anyway, i dont think more plugins will take SD to where u guys want. It will help a lot though. But the secret to why RR has soo many users and people making plugins, skins ect for it. Is that RR is very open and allows anyone to get in there and significantly change the user experience.
Its the only frontend that i can skin and actually specify exactly how the end user experience is going to be. Its not dictated by the frontend. I specify exactly how each screen is layed out and what features are on them and how they function. And if the core features of RR are not enough, i can easily extend them with some simple scripts.
There are many skins for RR that each have features found no where else. We're not limited by just changing the way a button looks like in CF and SD (from when i tested them). Both SD and CF are very good frontends, but the closed system (in comparison with RR) is the main reason i dont use either and im sure a lot of other skinners have the same reason also. I know right off the bat that i cant make a skin for SD the way i can for RR, so it will never be the right app for me (unless this changes). By default RR is not the right app for me either, but it gives me the choice to make it the right app for me if i want to, and SD needs to give its users that ability.

Then you will see people making creative skins, more people will start to take a second look and more people will start creating plugins.

just my thoughts from the outside looking in.

Thanks LS., you saved me a whole lot of typing.

I have looked at porting the iDrive skin to other FE's (Centrafuse, SD, ME, MI and others) but was dismayed at the lack of flexibility and from what I could see it was virtually impossible to do with the lack of flexibility.

I have also looked at trying to interface my pugins to CF but don't really 'get' their SDK yet. I haven't looked at SD's yet but from what has been said in this thread I doubt I will.

Very well put, Liquid Smoke. However, it seems that by nature of SD being a commercial product with official support (I say "official" loosely), it's not possible to be as open-source as we'd like it. And I'm sure the SD team also considers that we're not the only group that SD is meant to be marketed toward (we being the tweak-hungry geeks that we are here at the forum).

In any case, I agree totally with you, and I do wish SD was more open. I guess I just understand why it isn't.

SD can be "changed" fuctionality-wise, but you have to take the time to get the C# interfaced with the IDE (which is actually not that bad, and comes with instructions).

What SD is truly lacking is the ability to use a snap-in browser component an html text box, the ability to throw a flash file into the interface or the ability to stream in new images or movies (because it caches all of its images). I believe that the "ability" to modify the platform is there, but I think we are just missing a few elements to the development environment here and there. As far as people developing mods, if the developers are like me, they just see a lot of requests that would take a team of developers or a modification to the core engine in order to complete... The ones listed here didn't look too bad though.
