Praying that I get stuck in traffic....

I just updated to sd 1.1.1.0 and boy do I pray that Iím stuck in traffic just so that I can restart the dammn carputer.

Is it just me or are others having a lot of problems with the 1.1.1.0

I have expressed concern about SD's development and beta testing in the past, but today I really thing someone should start a class action law suit against SD.

They have not promised what they mentioned as coming soon upon purchase over 2.5 years ago. and they still release software with bugs that could have been avoided by a simple beta test. not to mention he hopeless navigation without a promise or solution in their development roadmap.

what do you guys think, is it just me?

We have an active beta testing program and every update is tested before it is released. We do not yet have the capability of testing every feature on every possible platform under every possible condition. I wish there was a simple solution to solve every problem at once, but that doesn't exist.

We no longer announce our future development roadmap for exactly the reason you are complaining about. A lot of features we thought would be easy had more problems then we initially anticipated and have taken significantly more resources to complete. We are still working on all the features that are coming soon and have plans for other enhancements that will fix some of the limitations with the current version, but we don't announce new features or potential dates anymore because sticking to the timelines has proven beyond our control and available resources.

I'm sorry the latest update is creating issues for you. Being specific about your problems would go alot futher to get them fixed then threatening to sue us though.

I actually have been having problems with 1.1.1.0 as of late. I've not changed ANYTHING and for some reason, it's not coming back from sleep/hibernation. It's something I've described before. I've tried to start it with various options enabled/disabled. I've tried to reset the config. All I know is that it's really frustrating to FINALLY get it working, then go to a store for 20 minutes and come out and then have to dick with it through magic incantation of power off/killing SD/soft power button until it finally comes back again. The three things I notice most are:

    • screen lights up "backlit black"
    • or SD boots to the splash screen but not past it
    • or I get to the main menu and click "music" and it says it's loading a module, but NEVER finishes (and the little buttons are all boxes)

And of course the CPU is either at 50+% or 100%. Oh, did I mention this is on a G4 -- the blessed system that SD bundles?

Not sure that will solve anything. You can't get blood from a stone. SD is about 10 people who are clearly overworked as it is. Not sure that "suing" anyone is the solution here. I think they've been beaten up quite a bit by this community (myself included) and perhaps instead of an "us" vs. "them" mentality, we should try to all work together, find out what the issues are, and then solve them.

... or you could always jump ship too I guess.

Trust me, I/we all feel your frustration carputerwiz.

i dont even actively use streetdeck but i do wanna see it succeed because of its affiliation to the web site. Its sad to hear of so many people having so many problems with software they paid for.. and it seems a better beta program would be essentially all you would need to get rid of these problems pre-release. Hell i'd test SD for em if i didnt have to pay for the right to test it

I really thought that many of these problems would be fixed by now. I've owned the software for 11 months now, and I am concerned that so many people (including those who bought it with the Infill, the hardware it is "designed" to work with) are still having such major issues such as unexpected crashing, etc.

I'm not sure it's the beta testing that's at fault though...I think GoC is correct when he says that as a small software company, they don't have the resources to test many different system configurations.

However, as I've said before, I think it would be helpful for the developers to make a MUCH more detailed install/software guide that details EXACTLY what is required by SD in an minimal install. Perhaps a very detailed step-by-step guide to their method of installation on the Infill hardware. While using that method wouldn't account for all the different hardware configurations out there, it would at least give users a place to start when trouble shooting (as in, "the recommended install method works well, but when I add THIS particular driver/piece of hardware, I start to get THIS error).

I also think that the SD teams' decision to not release any information about future features or a timeline for the program is severely undermining users' faith in the product and the dev. team. I am sure that the SD team is working as fast as they can to correct the known errors in the program, but that effort is invisible to end users, and so it seems that nothing is being accomplished (with regard to bug fixes AND feature fixes). It might help if the dev. team started a thread that was updated weekly detailing just what was being worked on at the time and the progress. While I realize this would be a bit of a burden, I think that the amount of criticism of the product on these forums is more than sufficient to prevent potential users from purchasing the software...and that is a dangerous place for the SD team to be as a small company with a single product. If sales tank because of lack of faith that users' concerns are being addressed or because it seems the product is not being improved regularly, then the capital used for development will be lost with it...

I have expressed concern about SD's development and beta testing in the past, but today I really thing someone should start a class action law suit against SD.
A lawsuit doesn't help anyone, except in the very specific instance that a user has decided that the product has a significant enough defect that he would rather have his money back than have the limited functionality of the product. I don't think this is the case with SD, at least not for me, and at least not yet. Suing a small company with limited capital would only prevent that capital from being used to fix/improve the product and distract the developers from their job. Carputerwiz, if you think that SD was unfairly advertised and you are dissatisfied as a result, then why not attempt to get a refund for yourself on the merit of your own claims against the product, rather than inciting other users to a lawsuit that would likely do more harm than good?
