    StreetDeck 2.0?

There is little info about this but I get the impression that there is ongoing work on a "new" StreetDeck under way? If so what will be the main improvements compared to 1.* and is there any aim for a release date, Q2, Q3, Q4 or even later?

Not sure how "new" it will be, as it should be just a version 2.0 release. It has been stated elsewhere, and repeatedly, that the 2.0 release will be a paid upgrade for 1.x users. However, there should be a 1.x release that includes all of the features initially promised with the announcement of SD...bluetooth, etc., that will be released before the 2.0 release.

Rumored features for the 2.0 release have included a new mapping engine. The SD team has an "official" policy of not quoting release dates, etc., as there have been upset users in the past when updates were not released when initially promised. So, I doubt there will be much official info about the SD release until it is actually released.

There's no information regarding any part of SD present or future coming from the SD team these days. They have, effectively, abandoned the forum.

    Not a great move, IMHO.

I agree, first they abandoned "coming soon" items like blue tooth, traffic and so on. Then they basically abandoned the customers all together. I really do feel stupid paying for this software now. Dont get me wrong I like it, but the support was what justified the pricetag.

    Yeah...a couple things concern me:
    • the lack of posts on the forum from the SD staff/developers
    • a seeming decrease in the frequency/number of posts from SD users on the forums
    • the decision to sell Centrafuse on the mp3car.com store

...I wonder if there is decreased interest in SD overall now. Are all of the posts regarding lack of support/bugs/errors preventing potential new customers from buying the software? If so, that's NOT good news. On the other hand, there were a couple posts a month or so regarding staffing changes at mp3car.com/SD that were to result in better support, etc., but not for a few months. I'd like to believe that the latter scenario is the case, but it's difficult for me to believe that staffing changes could result in such major disruption at such small companies.

I will say that now that I have my hardware/software finalized, SD is generally working as advertised, and pretty reliably. The bug reports now seem to deal with the more advanced features, such as satellite radio, OBD integration, etc., rather than basic functionality. That is a change...a quick glance at the bug reports from even six months ago reveals problems with the more basic features. So...that's a positive sign!

    Keeping my fingers crossed...

PS. Even at $200, SD is still a hell of a better deal than any Centrafuse package that I've seen...that software is EXPENSIVE, and I've seen a post by a potential switcher from SD to Centrafuse complain about how primitive the navigation interface in Centrafuse appears. I think that the "grass is always greener on the other side" argument is likely applicable to this situation, but I'm not yet convinced enough to throw $300+ at Centrafuse only to discover a different set of limitations.

I wonder what ever happened with hiring the extra developers. I thought that would make things better.

I'm also satisfied with the reliability of SD, but ! the situation, that SD is complete the same for me since August last year is really frustrating me!!

    • No additional features
    • No better music handling.
    • Still small unnecessary bugs or inconsistencies in the program, which are annoying me, mainly because no one seems to be interested in solving them.
    • The excessive overestimation of their capabilities, when having the heart to speak of a version 2, when there is no progress on version 1 !!!
    • I have payed SD with trust that they will care about us and try to hold their promises. But no one knows what they are doing, and if they are still alive.
    • Finally no Bluetooth, though they spend two years on this.. what's so difficult on this..pfff

I don't think I'm too impatient, but I already have lost my hope.
Fortunatelly SD is useable!!! But far away from what, I have expected, when I bought it...

I dont know about SD being considered reliable. I've had mappoint crash several times and bring SD down with it. Navigation and music module could be much much BETTER (the two most important features of a carpc).

Yeah, Mappoint is a problem in and of itself...there is a bug which has been around since 2004ish (according to various reports on the internet) that causes an error dialog to pop up and a debugger to run on quit...which causes problems even for developers.

I think Mappoint is poor for navigation software, but I'm not sure there are any better choices, because each package on the market has its own issues. There isn't any standout software package that is clearly superior to all others, which is weird, because there are multiple companies that do nothing but write GPS nav software. You'd think there'd be a "killer app" that would be the reference standard.
