Nobody is questioning the value of open source software...I think you might be missing the point of the original issue. The point was that it is in fact a commercial software and support has been less than stellar over the last 2 months, people are trying to find out what the issue is.

Oh, and the that $200...come on people...let's be honest. Do you think you would even notice $200 missing from your bank account after a few months? Probably not...

It has nothing to do with the cost. It wouldnt matter to me if I spent $2 on the software...if it is still supposed to be supported than I should see posts in here about it. If it's not...then I'll find an alternative that works for me. To be honest, none of the bugs that are currently being reported on the system bother me at all. None are really affecting me other than the arrival time issue. FOr that one...I don't really care all that much. It was more of a "Hey, can you guys fix this?" post instead of a "OMG!!!! I have no idea when I will arrive if I drive 60 mph and I have 60 miles left to go!!?!? Fix it!!!!"

I just want a new feature here or there...or have somebody else build something in the free development environment that is provided. For me...RR was a waste of time. I didn't want to spend a lot of time configuring it...i would rather spend that time doing other things with my time. Plus I didnt really like ANY of the skins to be honest. I wanted functionality and a good interface...I don't need spinning flash logo's...

Not to say RR is a bad product by any means. It's just not for me.

Plus it has nothing to do with this thread...

OH MY GOD!! I leave for a few and the spelling police show up.

Anyway, every feature that was promised to me I received, so no wooden nickels. None, nada, zip. Except for the games and that really was a bad idea for a front end anyway.

Bluetooth phone? Coming......didn't say tomorrow or next week. Says in development

E-mail? 1) Also coming, and 2) doubt I want my e-mail right there where my passengers can open it.

Open source? You mean cluster**** don't you? Just as soon as one bug gets fixed, another "genius" comes along and puts one back in. No thank you, I'll stick with my paid for software. Even with the whiners, streetdeck is years ahead of any open source code front end, and it always will be strictly because there is no quality control. Just a bunch of wannabe's that are too cheap to pay. Yeah, linux is better than windows......only if you are poor.

Also, I run windows xp mce, so no, I don't have bugs in my StreetDeck
    My opinion is my own.

WOW and reading 11 pages of rants now makes you and authority on StreetDeck with clear understanding of their business model and objectives.

It would also seem that after reading 11 pages you've gained far more knowledge than any lowly SD user and will now truly shed light on the true plight of SD as well as finally open the eyes of the SD community with the incomprehendible knowleged you've gleened after reading 11 pages.

Honestly to have the audacity after reading 11 pages and more than likely having no experience with SD to make such statements is arrogance on a absurd level. We are all entiltled to our opinions but anyone can make broad sweeping statements with the benifit of hindsight and seem insightful.

Open source is not usually a bad thing. For instance with RoadRunner, the main big hunk of code is open source, but only guino officially releases new versions once tested. You can submit code to him for him to put in after testing to make sure it works no problem. Or you can release a plugin. Just like for SD, a pluging is made by someone else therefore a possible cause for errors.

If the main chunk was released with all sorts of flavours and such that would get annoying. But all in all, open source is a winner. And i would have to agree windows > linux. It may cost money, but it is worth it.

WTF are you saying? Have you ever used any open source software other than RoadRunner? .... forget it- I'm wasting my breath.

When having your house built, which is better.....

One person in charge of a paid team of professionals (and financially libel)?

Anyone that comes along can swing a hammer and "Joe" will check to see if it's all the way in.

When you have 20 people going in 20 directions writing code, then another 20 writing bug reports on the previous 20 submissions, do you really think that's better than slow and methodical?

Yes, I have. Linux is a joke. "You just don't know how to set it up"......and that's the joke. My time is worth paying NOT to set something up.

Open Source != design by committee.
