Do some searching on the Andrea here in the forums. Some motherboards are compatible with just the mic. Mainly those that come with the same software.

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent mic, but I don't see $90. You can get the mic alone here at the mp3 store I think. It would probably be the same and a lot cheaper. Then later, when they figure it out, you can get the USB device separately.

Added note: Just checked and they do have the mic here. Andrea Electronics Superbeam Array Microphone Bundle. That I might recommend.

I see. Maybe i'll just wait to see how the mic with the bluetooth dongle is. They show something it will come with on mp3car.

The bluetooth dongle won't have a mic included, it uses the mic from the pc. But question is how is the noice cancelation implemented...

I would also prefer an usb mic (my onboard mic port is blocked), but I also haven't found a solution, where I don't have to use also the audio out... But I think this is technically not possible and nc is only possible if it's done by one device, because of too much and not predictable delay between both cards.

My onboard realtek sound supports nc and so I assume the cheap 20$ mic will perform much better than the andrea usb, when not using its sound out...

For me best would be an usb nc solution like andrea, but with digital sound out instead of this analog jack, because I use an toshlink D/A converter. This one works really perfect..no ground loop possible... no plop, when switching the pc on or off.. and also good sound quality... was about 150$ and full worth the price :-)

But I think I have to solder something to my miniITX board and use a standard analog mic.
Like I have already soldered the usb ports and also changed the VGA connector from angled to straight ;-)...
This was the only possibility to build my own little more than dobble din carpc unit and everythink inclusive amp is in the dash :-)

That would be the andrea that is listed just below the dongle.

I really like what you've done! The UltraBay looks really nice, and I wish I had a spot to put something like that in my install.

I broke the LCD while "cleaning up" my install. So once the new one comes in, I am going to take the broken one apart and see if the LCD can be removed and the unit modified for single bay setup.

I'll report here.

The good news is I didn't break the LCD. The power plug wasn't seated properly. When I went to pull it out, I unplugged and replugged and it came on. The better news is that when I pulled the face off to examine the LCD, I found a very dark tinted window glued to the face Removed this and the imon face isn't scratched AND it isn't dark! woohooo!!

Cleaned everything up, remade the face where it is much duller, and the frame looks like a frame (you can now see the outline of the iMon. It actually looks better. Will put the labels on it and get some pictures.

Now the bad news. No, the LCD cannot be removed to make a single bay unit with controls only. However, the guy with soundgraph is going to add the youtube video to his newsletter to send out to his customers. They will be looking for feedback on possible automotive single/double din unit. I also sent them a mockup of a single bay control unit so who knows. Here is the picture of the mockup. It's thin to mount anywhere for those that don't have an open hole.

Got it, thanks. I suspect this is a sorely missed piece in many car-PC installs (the lower half). I meant to also ask:

Did you happen to see or know what kind of plastic the front panel is made of (PP, ABS, ABS/PC, etc.)?
