    Hi Daniel,

you are right with the software thing, a good onboard sound has noise and echo! cancellation integrated, which maybe works as good as the andrea thing.

But it's not right, when you say:

The Andrea is a stereo mic, being able to figure out the direction where the sound comes from..
So it can eliminate sound sources from the side and only uses the sound / voice in front of the mic... (by software processing)
I don't know how much this helps, but it's a difference.
And when you plug this stereo mic in your onboard sound mono mic jack, only one mic of the two will be used... - you also have to use the andrea usb adapter for this feature...

My andrea mic is under way, so I'm soon able to test all this features...

Ah...that would make sense why it would test out close to the same as the RadioShack craptastic. However, using this software, would you really want directional? Personally, the reason I wanted this software in the first place is because when I was showing my carpc off to my brother, the first thing he said was "play michael bolton" and I had to tell him my carpc couldn't do that.

I'm not sure that when you say directional, that converts to unidirectional, but what I have found with the mic by itself is, because of the tubular design, if you move to the side, it doesn't work anymore.

For this feature (one voice), I would think everyone in the car should be able to control it. Even my voice activation button is the middle most button of the Ultrabay.

Let me know how that works though. I have the USB adapter, I just don't use it. Never saw that much difference. Plus the ALC883 noise/echo cancellation, I found, is much better. Can't say how I came to that conclusion, but it definitely is better.

Austria??? Oh man, I LOVE that place! Spent a lot of time in Villach. If there is heaven on earth, it's somewhere around there.
Edit: Just checked the map, you're just a hop, skip, and a jump from Klagenfurt/Villach. I so envy you! Villacher beer rules! Crawled home through the snow many a time.
    My opinion is my own.

Iīd say it depends on what voices you have installed on your system.
There are many available. Downside, they are not free. But you can listen to them before you buy it.

Edit: I have lite. and have installed some cepstral voices. It works for me.
Now if I only had a better mic.
If I donīt remember it. It never happened

Where can I find these voices and do I even need the voices. Can I use the plug in without some stupid thing talking to me. Unless it is like a sexy woman phone sex voice. That I wouldn't mind. not that I would know what they sound like.

    Regarding voices.
    cepstral
    AT&T-voices
    Acapela
Dont know much about other than Cepstral wich I use.
You could Google "text to speech"

Regarding if you need the voices. I guess your system has Microsoft Sam&Anna as voices. If so then I would say yes you do. There are so much better voices avalable.
I guess the whole idea with this is for it to sound as good and natural as possible.
If I donīt remember it. It never happened

    Follow-up on my bug report...

I had to insert the original DVD so that SD would start again (could not get away from the "the feature you are trying to use is not available" message box looking for streetdeck.msi.

After this completed successfully, I was up and running. One thing I noticed - no idea if this can somehow be related to this install - is that my 'toggle fullscreen' gesture got reset..perhaps that was just because I had to point it to the original .msi? I did a lot of customization with keyboard commands also, haven't checked yet if they're still there.

Anyway - get to audio wizard, and after attempting it a couple of times, it says I can't do voice recognition on my system . Note - that I know my cheap mic lacks a bit in volume, but SD voice commands have been working very, very well, even with windows halfway down. I also use Dragon Naturally speaking which works, less well, but still works.

So, hmmm...not sure what I'll do next here. I still have my Andrea USB mic, which does a lot better in terms of volume, so I might try that again...hate to do it because the other one is perfectly concealed in the OnStar mic location and this one will poke out wherever I put it.

The two major concerns to this point seem to be:

    1) The commands listing (currently available preset commands vs. customized commands)

    2) The potential for voice training

As far as the commands listing goes, we are still trying to determine which route we will be going on the development end. We can guarantee that the final product will at least let you do one or the other, thus not losing functionality that users already have.

Currently, there is no training module and the list of commands that are given are stand-alone. Along the way, the phonetics list will continually be updated, ensuring the highest success rates, and if users can create their custom commands at some point, training might not be necessary.

If you have any comments or questions, feel free to provide input and we can determine what users might want to see most.

As far as the bug S4Per listed, this has been passed on to the developers and will be further evaluated.

Thanks again everybody for your efforts and please contact me if you need any help.

I got it working ok with a piece of shizzle mic. After that shutdown and locked up at the start up of streetdeck. Restarted and locked up again. SD wouldn't reset just sat at the loading screen. I'll have to try again.

I can't really say that the commands already in the beta aren't working because as stated, piece of shizzle mic. I'm sure they do work fine, becuase I had some working good.

On development, I would say video module commands should emulate some commands from the music module perhaps, "Play video gunit i'm so fly" or "play video gone in sixty seconds" and so on.

Other modules I can keep going on,

Some food for thought, what would be really cool is if you could build a queue or playlist by speaking. "Add blah blah to playlist"

This is for the community: How can we trigger the griffin powermate to activate the speak now command?
