    Intermittent problems with streetdeck

    Not sure if I should post a bug report or not, since this could be my hardware causing this. I have noticed for some time now that every now and then when streetdeck starts, it will begin to loadup (get to loading nav data on the splash screen) then it minimizes, I get the Streetdeck error report dialog box. If I don't click on the dialog box within a second or two, I get a full black screen that I can't get out of. I usually just ignore this and go streetdeck-less for a couple of days. It seems that it does it in spurts - I won't be able to get it working for a week, then it will work fine for a month or two.

    It's been crazy lately and probably broken for close to a month now. I just messed with it today, ran -verbose and it started up the first time. Closed it and opened it again and it crashed. I have an error report and will post here or in bug reporting forum if anyone can help me out. Thanks,

    TravisT

    It's not just you. For me it just loads completely blank (never gets to nav screen). It seems to happen when the PC has been in standby/hibernate for more than a short period.

    I have the same issue and it has happened since the beginning (three installs, one computer ago). Really havent taken the time to track it down. Might take a stab at it this weekend.

    Just to clear my problem up, I don't ever get to the nav screen, I just get the splash startup screen where it says loading NAV module, and I think that's the last thing I see before it blackscreens.

    I recently reverted my G4 to its original state using the Restore DVD. So far the resume-from-standby bug has not happened with SD 1.0.9.5 that came by default. I will be upgrading to the newer versions one by one to try to find when the problem occurred (and hopefully someday there will be more SD development to fix the bug).

    <a little off topic>
    Well I know there is a lot of controversy on Streetdeck road these days...

    I have to agree with most of it due to the fact that when I purchased SD I knew that there were a COUPLE of bugs, and was under the impression that we had a team of developers that were working on fixing these and that they would be fixed shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, many of the bugs that were present when I purchased the software (and first demo'd the software) are still there after 5+ updates. I would just like to know that the issues are being worked, and I don't think they are. I have to say that I feel like I've been had on buying SD. The software was (and could still be with some updates and bug fixes) the best all-inclusive front end for carpc's.

    I don't intend to turn this into a flaming contest on the SD developers, because there are plenty of those threads already. I'd love some improvements/fixes on this software that I feel I spent a good bit of money for.

    Does the Restore DVD really set things back "as new" complete with working MapPoint and all? I've read other posts where people complained about the restore DVD not having everthing their G4 had out of the box.

    Yes, the restore DVD had everything working for me, including MapPoint. It comes with SD 1.0.9.5 installed. You do have to have your Windows license key available though.

    Any other ideas for us non-G4 folks to fix this problem?
