Unfortunatly were only going to support US and Europe for a number of months and only through the mapping data we provide (mappoint). We are considering internationalization, but have no concrete plans yet.

StreetDeck does not support running arbitrary windows programs in the foreground (at least the GUI part of them) while the car is in motion. This is what map monkey and destinator would fall under. The SDK will allow you to add other functionality to the program though, which could potentially be a different mapping program, but it will require you to use the StreetDeck interface through the SDK to maintain consistancy and usability.

First off, i read most of the thread, i know who you're marketing to.

Second, no, you didn't follow sentence structure...i'm talking about the combination PDA laptop. Its something that i, and many others whave wanted, but the price is to staggering, killing interest. I haven't researched your interest levels. I wouldn't remark on an interest level that i have no idea about. You've got a computer for a car. I had a pocket pc in a car that played movies that had people asking questions and giving positive comments. Its not secret: people like cool stuff.

Third, i've already remarked on how the average person would find it appealing, my only comment of restriction on that was that of the price. Why not get laptop with GPS and an XM reciever for less than that price? Its just too high in my mind. The people who pay an extra $2K for in dash navigation when much better alternatives are out there for <$1K, the fast and the furious crowd, and the gadget hounds, i feel, will rush for this like they do for every new device. Then there will be the continuing market of those looking for an easy solution to a CPC. My comments weren''t negative in terms if your product, except of its features per price agianst what people already have, or meant to be. However i stand by statements. That's what my openinng comments reflected on. Personally, i like your product. Last year, i had a friend who wanted me to start researching CPC's and build a system like yours. I'm a mech, he's comp sci. We never got around to it since he ran into monetary issues and I maintained that using a laptop with a docking station would just be all around better. I ran with my ideas until circumstances prevented me from doing so. Nostalgia aside, its still too much. A person is in a car for anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours 98% of the time. $2500 is an outrageous price for that, period, since, by law, some of the feautures can't be accessaible when driving. A couple hundred over the AVIC, ie, my 1500 mark, and you got yourself a good thing going.

Beyond that, i compared your interface for the CPC that of an iPod's to MP3 players....there is no higher multimedia compliment out there, so i'm not sure where you're fueling the attitude on where i procured your beta disk from. Maybe i'll try it out. Maybe not. Either way, i still think your interface is your saving grace, unless by trying out, you mean there's something bad about it i should know about.

I do warn: remember the OQO. Remember the Transnote.

And don't just in swinging wildly at someone because you think they're just trashing your product. By your comments you either didnt really read what i said or you read in anger and misread it. Hell, the modular core system is an idea that, if you followed up on it, would allow for you to open up to another market demoraphic like the Dell Axim X5 opened up pocket PC's to teens.

Cool you jets man, if i thought your producted sucked, i would flat out say it. Learn what constructive critism is. Anyways, i wish you the best of luck on your business endevour.

Uh, as soon as we figure out a way to sell it that Genesisfactor will be happy with and still be able to be profitable

Seriously though, the only standalone edition will be the developer edition and being able to release that is contigent on the SDK getting done, getting a software distribution network in place, getting some of our costs way down, and a few other things. The best estimate is it will probably happen within 2 - 6 months.

What? 2-6 months? I've watched that video, and I must say, I just loved it! Please, do make it in such a way that it will be avalaible as a stand alone product.

    damn straight, make me happy.

hehe, no, friendly suggestions from someone how's owned some of the best and most ingenius ideas out there, such as the Transnote, and watched them become discontinued. Price was the number one factor in all their respected demise. I don't want you to fail, honest. If you succeed, after a year, your front end will be on ebay or bittorrent and i'll get it for cheap when i get lazy or frustrated with my progress . Who wouldn't want that?

Besides, i have some friends watching my progress with great interest. I'll be watching yours with that same interest because i don't recommend bad products.

    HEHE! Same here....
But whatever, good luck... It all seems cool and I think the most innovative thing about the frontend is the mouse-gestures like in Firefox.... Way cool.
The thing about this is that this is gonna bring a lot of changes to the industry, so for good or bad this is prolly no longer an amateur hobby.
