    How much hard drive space

How much hard drive space is internal to StreetDeck? And is this upgradeable (either from you guys or by us with some sort of duping utility to copy over the SD software? This would be awesome but I can understand warranty issues).

The BETA unit comes with 60 gigs. Final release systems will probably be more configurable, if you want to order one now with a bigger harddrive, you should call the store directly and talk to them about upgrading it.

StreetDeck is locked to the hardware. If you change the harddrive, you will have to call up and request a new registration code.

What warrany issues do you have? The hardware now comes with a 1 year warranty and the software should be fully supported after we take it out of BETA. All BETA units will get a free software upgrade to the final version.

The software has been locked down and hasn't had any major feature upgrades for the past 6 months while its been in internal testing. Our internal testing team is unable to crash it anymore, but we still expect a number of quirks to come out when releasing it on a global scale which is why its still in BETA.

What I meant was, if I go and buy a 300gb drive and crack open the case, dupe the 60gb drive to the 300, and install the 300, I would assume that would affect the warranty on part or all of the unit- correct? And, as a disclaimer, I think that is reasonable.

But if I can upgrade the storage with external USB drives, which the manual seems to say is possible, then this is kind of a moot question- at least for me.

Theres no warranty stickers on the case to stop you from opening it and upgrading it. Anything that is clearly damaged cause you didn't install it properly won't be covered under warranty though.

If you wan't more space after purchasing, the perferred option is to use a secondary harddrive via USB or other means as it won't effect the hardware locking.

just quick question, you said that the software is locked to the hardware.

From my understanding, they are not trying to exist in the mobile computing space as a software provider. But they are also releasing a limited developer edition because they <3 the mp3car.com-type mobile computing enthusiasts out there. Check out the other thread abotu that.

Do all of the mp3s need to be on the same drive? The manual seems to indicate that the indexed mp3s get moved to a specific folder. Are there any plans to allow the mp3s to be on multiple drives?

No, all media files for a specific type have to be on the same drive for the automatic indexer to work. You can put the different media on different drives though, or you can remap a folder in windows XP to point to a different drive.

Alternatively, for music only, StreetDeck uses windows media player as the backend for music management so if you add all your files manually to windows media player in any way it allows, they will show up in StreetDeck and remain there until you clear the index. New files will not be automatically indexed though unless the are in the unindexed music path.

Paths can be adjusted from the media paths tool.

If you purchased a DigitalWheelz G35 Screen Housing 700TSV screen in the past, send an e-mail to [email protected] along with your reciept and you will be given instructions on how to obtain a StreetDeck system.

The complete G35 StreetDeck system will be available around 1/27/2005 with very similar specs to the generic StreetDeck system now sold, except with the G35 Stealth Case and G35 Screen Housing, probably for around the same price as the generic system.
