Upgrading the CPU / StreetDeck User Review

First off...I received my Streetdeck bundle 2 days ago and I am VERY pleased so far! The Streetdeck software is amazing to say the least! I had a little trouble getting the machine to boot up in my car, but the guys at mp3Car helped me get things working quickly. Turns out that it was simply user error. :-)

Anyways...back to my question. I noticed that the processor included is a 1.5Ghz Celeron M. Looking at the motherboard specs, it looks like up to a 2.26Ghz Pentium M is supported. Does anyone have experience running a processor other than the 1.5Ghz Celeron on the MB896 mobo? Is it worth the upgrade?

I have both a pentium M and celron m chip, personally i dont think its worth the upgrade since you already have a cpu. Infact if you upgrade to a Pentium m of the same speed you will not be able to tell the difference while the system is in your car.

But I would guess that upgrading from a 1.5GHz Celeron M to a 2.26GHz Pentium M would be a significant speed increase...that's more what I was getting at.

I don't think it would be a huge increase in speed. Remember that it's a car computer and not really doing that many CPU intensive processes. There's quite a price difference ($200) from the Celeron 1.5 M to the Pentium 2.26 M

The best bang for your buck with streetdeck, since its direct3d, is to just toss in a good PCI 3D card. This should free the primary processor from doing any rendering and make it slightly faster, but as ZipLock mentioned the current system is pretty close to the fastest system we could build for what its doing, so nothing will have earth shattering performance increases.

I woulda though the added benifit of the 2mb l2 cache of the pentium m would make a noticable improvement, no?
