5.1 surround sound support 4 street deck

Will it work?

Simple setup :
5.1 Audio card with spdif out (RCA-D, or Toslink) to 5.1 surround amp.
Would there be a problem with controlling the sound volume from the GUI?

I didn't know you could get 5.1 digital input amps for the car! Got any links?

I don't think Streetdeck can adjust each speaker individually like the driver specific volume mixer can on those cards. However, you can set it in WinXP and then just let Streetdeck manipulate the main volume controls.

i've heard that from windows it is impossible to control volume gain, thats why these amps come with a remote to control sound since the connection is digital, but with a simple RF commander u can feed commands into the IR reciever I think.

I wanna get an opinion from pros on all this setup with built in 5.1 surround motherboard and these amps to work with StreetDeck.

I actually use infra-red to allow my steering wheel and radio buttons to control the carPC and streetdeck (PAC Audio SWI-X device, USB-UIRT, and girder).

I guess you could use the external emitter of the USB-UIRT and send the amp commands after receiving IR codes from the SWI-X (acting as a bridge).

I just used a SB Extigy - it has all the digital inputs and outputs, good DACs, and can be controlled from within Windows and StreetDeck natively.

I wanna be able to use the 5.1 soundcard that comes with the motherboard, thus lowering wattage consumption by not having additional usb unit.

With my nVidia Nforce2 board, which I use in my home theater via a 5.1 SPDIF link, I just set the output levels once, and then volume control (not individual speaker control) operates as usual. I think that should work for you.

I'm planning to use TOSlink connection from the board to the amp. In surround mode and stereo source like mp3 file, there will be no sound in the rear speakers unless the amp is in 4.1 pseudo mode.
