It works fine on my SB Audigy and I don't know of any other way to enumerate them that could solve this problem.
I am going to write a small windows app to use that and see what I can come up with...

I think this is how I actually found out about mp3car.com - I was disappointed with the audio analog quality and was looking for digital output and came across this...

XMDirect Dual Optical & Coax is here!
Thanks for the info. Did it make a noticeable difference?

Yes it is noticeably cleaner, sharper but it does depend on the song and station. I think that if you've got a really good audio setup, then yes it will make a difference.

I found several posts of individuals who had analyzed the sound quality and the frequency response was much improved according to their data. That convinced me to try it out and I am loathe to go back to the analog output now that I've become used to the digital out.

I may be stuck though because it seems the Creative drivers are doing something funny to manipulate the volume for the SPDIF using the windows mixer.

I might have to find some other solution. Hey - can you tell me a little about that Turtle Beach card I see in your sig - I will research it - does it have COAX SPDIF input? Does it work well with SD?

It does have an optical input and it works fine with SD. No issues resuming from hibernation/standby either.

Very nice. My modified XM does not have an optical out, but it has a spot for one. I have the part #, so I could add that.

I just want to confirm that you can "see" (adjust) the volume of the SPDIF signal from within StreetDeck. Also I notice a manual volume control - I presume you can override this via a software mixer (StreetDeck volume control).

I am sooo tired of Creative software issues - have always had trouble with every Creative card I have had. Good hardware, poor drivers with few if any updates...

I just read that this device has EITHER line in or digital in but not both.

I need it to mix the two. The Extigy does this so well - and functions stand alone even without the PC. It really is a nice piece of hardware (very different than the Audigy). Wish I could resolve this little issue.

If there can be an option to MUTE the XM Radio device, then I can live with the Extigy as is I think.

Yeah it uses a funky adapter to use optical.

Ok, I did some researching and I'm thinking of getting an m-Audio Firewire Audiophile unit. It's gotten great reviews and I think I can even get it to fit up front so that I get a "real" volume control in case the carPC goes haywire etc.

Anyone with any thoughts on this unit? I guess I'd be taking a gamble that StreetDeck would be able to see (control) the inputs from within the program... I figure at least its not a Creative product, right???

If StreetDeck is going to just mute the input line for XM, then I am going to have to ditch the Extigy. God_of_CPU can you clarify whether it is feasible to continue to have the option to mute the XM radio device the "old way" as well. Will allow me to decide which way to go...

The m-Audio Firewire Audiophile is a great unit but it does NOT work with SD. I had it for a short time and really loved it but SD could not control the volume. When you install it, it disables the windows volume tray icon and replaces it with it's own. SD could not control the volume.

If Chuck can find a fix for this I'd go out and buy another m-Audio Firewire Audiophile in a heartbeat (I already ebayed mine.)

I will add the XM DAC mute back in the next update.

I can't do anything about proprietary volume control though.
