GPS auto re-routing issues

Hi,

In version 1.0.4.3, there is now an option to set how soon you want auto re-routing for the Navigation to occur. You can set different intervals. I have set mine to .1 miles as I want mine to auto re-route me immediately when I make a wrong turn. It does re-route if you go away further from your destination. But, if it tells you to make a left on Street A and instead you make a left on Street B (street right after street A) it doesn't re-route. It doesn't re-route as long as you are still heading the same direction to your destination even if you are not on the path it is suggesting to you.

Is that the intended feature? I was under the impression that it should auto re-route you if you are 'X' miles away from that path that it suggests. Thanks.

It will reroute as soon as you go more then .1 miles off of the current direction. If by chance the wrong street you took and the correct street are parallel and close to each other, it may not reroute at all until you start to head away from the correct street. You can always always choose to manually reroute at any time though.

will this be fixed at some time in the future? that's a pretty big 'bug' or lack of a robust feature in a full featured navigation program IMHO.

Its already been fixed. It should reroute almost immediatly after going off route.

...sorry, i meant something related: i just drove home and missed a right turn (on purpose). after i went the required distance for it to auto reroute (which it does in a timely manner) it assumed - without telling me - that i'd changed direction by 180 degrees and now was telling me to prepare to take a left onto the same street that i just missed taking a right on. It makes no mention of having me make a u-turn, or even more desirable, to take the next right instead of the one i just missed.

is this a known issue / will it be addressed?

Its a known issue, but we have no way to fix it with the current routing engine since it doesn't take into account your current direction when calculating a route.

are there plans for a future / enhanced routing engine? Is this SD, btw, or are you relying on MapPoint for this? (FWIW - this is huge for NAV and maybe the one thing that will keep me from relying on SD for navigation...I really want to stay in one interface though

Its a mappoint problem. It won't be solved in this version.

FYI:
The "Most use of highways" route option is bull****, man.
I chose that option this morning before a long roadtrip (El Paso to Dallas) and when I was on the highway, it kept telling me to get off and take little rural farm roads, giving me an extra 200 miles (not a typo - two hundred miles!!!) to my trip.

It was a simple matter to go back to the route and choose quickest route. I left it on there to see how much it wanted me to get off the freeway. PRetty persistent.

I know this is MapPoint's routing engine, so I'm not faulting SD whatsoever.
BTW: It did GREAT on my roadtrip this past week.

Well I don't see why Microsoft can't get it fixed. It should be able to incorporate current direction in the routing...

Don't they know how SD is highlighting their product?
