    nice navigation upgrades in 1.0.4.5

Love the extra directions (voice prompts), simplified directions the 2nd time around, and super smooth scrolling.

    Awesome...

And the immediate "off route, recalculating..." option works great too.

GOC, I know you said Mappoint 2004 couldn't do this, but the only option missing from my Garmin unit is the ability to always display the next upcoming cross street (so you don't have to squint in the dark looking for street signs). I was wondering if Mappoint 2006 could do this? (Anyone know?)

Mappoint definitly can't do this on its own. There was very little new in mappoint 06 feature wise besides new map data. I have some ideas about how we might be able to do this on our own, but I have no idea if or when it will get implemented.

Immediate autorerouting and the new voice prompts just happen in 1.0.4.5. Theres no way to turn either on or or off yet.

I see that this was added to 1.0.4.5:

Added Night Mode shading and map color changes
So, is this the night time display of GPS? I would test this out but I hardly drive at night during the weekdays. Also, when I get home someone parks behind me so it would be a hassle for them to move their car out so that I could test this. If this is for nighttime display of the GPS, is there a way to turn it off? I don't see an option for it. Thanks.

The "Toggle Night Mode" function turns on and off night mode. This includes making all images in the skin darker and switching the colors of the map. By default a U gesture is the only input bound to "Toggle Night Mode"

I just tried this out, pretty neat! I can't wait to see what it looks like when I'm actually driving at night. Thanks for adding this feature!

The one thing that I saw you omitted was the red square that indicated your destination address. Now, I just see a green path and it just ends there at the destination. Any reason why you removed this red icon? I thought the red dot was pretty helpful and it was good eye candy.

Just an idea addon for Navigation

    Hi Chuck,

Do you have any plans on adding picture symbols to POI's? Someone told me that one of the pioneer avic GPS/DVD/mp3 head units actually have the McDonalds "Yellow M" symbol for every McDonalds location. Same goes for Washington "W" Mutual and others. I thought that was pretty cool when I heard it.

I know those are the default icons from MapPoint. I have no idea whether they can be altered or not...
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

It was lost as a side effect of some of the other additions to nav. It will probably be back in a more 3D form someday.
