    Navigation observations in 1.0.4.6

First of all, great job on the changes to the NAV. Everything looks sweet, especially the smooth GPS refresh....pretty slick.

There were a couple minor things I was wondering about:
    1) What happened to the 'ding' when arriving at a turn? Am I just not seeing the setting, or has it been removed?
    2) In NAV view #2 (detail view, I believe), when the media change screen comes up at the next song, it is hidden behind the zoomed map, so part of the song title is hidden. The default setting is to suppress media change notices in full-screen NAV mode, so maybe no one else is seeing this. I like seeing the song title change, but it looks like the order of the windows is backwards (only in that NAV view though).

Outside of those 2 things, I also noticed a few minor metric system-related issues (for us imperically challenged folks in Canada ), even after I set everything to show in KMs:
    a) Spoken voice always relays upcoming directions in "yards".
    b) When searching for POIs within x number of KM, it returns the appropriate POI, but has the distance in "miles" next to it.
    c) In NAV view #1 (status module), the speedometer graphic only displays miles per hour. Any chance you can provide a metric version, that we can manually insert with the skin editor?

Anyway, the fact that the issues I pointed out are all pretty minor shows how far SD has come along.....nice work!

    Thanks!

Yes, the ding was removed. It tells you the action to take now rather then dinging.

    2. is actually a known issue because of how z-order and skinning works. It will probably be there for a while since theres no easy fix for it yet.

A, B, and C will be fixed, no skin changes necessary.

I was driving today and started to use the POI features. Something is quite not right. I was looking for restaurants within the area and the results came up with "Toyota Dealership", "Washington Mutual Bank", and the list of nearby restaurants. Anyone experience inaccurate results?

Are you using the 2006 map data or an earlier version like 2004?
I know that prior to 1.0.4.5, the POI organization was geared to the 2004 mappoint data, causing the 2006 POIs to be all screwy. That's corrected now.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    The 2004 POI format changed.

We have decided to ship all those who purchased BETA units a free upgrade to 2006 once StreetDeck starts shipping.

    Hey GOC,

I was trying out the night GPS feature and everything seems fine except for text. Since the background is dark grey and the text is black, it makes it fairly difficult to read the text. Perhaps changing the text color to yellow? Just a suggestion. Thanks.
