Change the application data path in the media paths tool.
GOC,
Is there a way to have SD load the skins from a different path rather than local disk\my documents which is my c: drive (HD)?
I have SD loaded on my high speed flash disk (e: drive) and wanted to move my skins to it too for increased performance.
Thanks,
Change the application data path in the media paths tool.

Hum….that’s what I thought.
I tried using that tool to change the app data path to e:\streetdeck then clicked on “Save”. Tried running SD and got an error: “The application data path (…and so on..) could not be found”. Went back into the tool and it was back to its defaults. I even tried to replicate the c drive path by using e:\documents and settings\administrator\my documents\streetdeck to no avail. The settings won’t take.
I am running a fresh install of WinXP using the Administrator account. Streetdeck was freshly installed on the e drive with no SD updating done on this laptop. StreetDeck is ver. 1.0.4.8.
Let me know if there is anything else needed to fix my issue.
Thanks.
You need to add the Start In Path to the installation location of StreetDeck.
See this post: 1.0.4.6 bug
Thanks for the reply DP,
I already tried that. It reads "e:\program files\streetdeck". I changed it when I installed SD 1.0.4.8 on the e drive on Monday.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I bet it is something obvious that I can't seem to figure out.
I think what I am going to do now is wipe everything out and fresh install 1.0.4.9 and see if that fixes my issue.

GOC,
Ok I'm frustrated. I re-imaged my laptop from scratch. Installed SD 1.0.5.0. Installed SD on my e drive (flash disk) run it. It ran fine. Copied the Street Deck folder within "My Documents" and renamed the copied folder to "SD".
Ran the "Edit Media Paths" tool and selected the "SD" folder from the "..." browse button. Clicked on the "Save" button. The tool closed without any messages. When back into the tool and it still shows the default settings.
I copied a custom skin into the "SD" folder. I ran SD to see if skin is visible within SD. I was thinking that maybe the settings might be committing but whenever you load the tool it will always show the defaults even if they are changed. Looked for the skin....no dice.
At this point I am at a loss.

Do you have a mediapaths.dat file in yoru program files\streetdeck directory? Does it work if you run the SDConfig.exe executable directly from that directory?Originally Posted by robertgu

Ok...at first there was no mediapaths.dat in that directory. Ran the tool directly from the folder and it worked fine. The .dat file now appears.
I'm thinking this is an oversight on my part. I should have changed the "start in" line on the tool's icon from blank to the new program location on the e drive. I did it for the street deck icon but not for the others. Bone-head move on my part.
I copied my app data to the flash drive, rerouted the paths and all works the way I wish it to. Thanks GOC and DP for the help.
On a side note...GOC great product; very clean, extremely well integrated (no need for the end-user to piece together various programs like some other front-ends), excellent eye candy, and the GPS software...what can I say...AMAZING!
I anxiously await Sirius Sat. support and Cellphone Bluetooth integration.
Thanks.
