The wifi is also great so on trips when I have a passenger I can give them my Fujitsu P1510D lifebook and let them go on the internet too just by bringing it into the car. Also whenever I need to update anything in the car from my laptop I just bring it out and they connect up.
Good idea to use ethernet port, keep the wireless off for security reason even with encryption, until u need to use it.

Yes, the virtual earth button is a skinned element so you will have to add the button to any skin that doesn't have it already.

Btw, does Virtual Earth share image database with Google Earth or they're completely independent?

Im guessing the actual DB they use is different, but the sources they use to get the images are the same (Im parked in the same spot in both services)..

They are completely independent. Microsoft doesn’t like Google and vice versa.

That is an awsome idea, I would be very interested to see your app when it is completed.

In November I will be replacing my phone with an EVDO Blackberry just so I can do this (although all the other functions will be cool too)... So hopefully this will be out of beta by then?

Oh yeah its neverending battle, but its not the reason why the are incompatable, the were created by diferent people. I've heard that microsoft was copying google search engine algorithms for their new search engine. Microsoft has way too much money, just like intel by the way and both just created teams of engineers that will work creating software and hardware for incar computing. Gartner estimates 10 billion revenue in 2010 for this market.
Streetdeck will survive due to the fact that:
    1) its expanding fast and very flexible
    2) its based on windows/directx/ etc (everything microsoft)
    3) its guesture interface is great! ( I hope its patented, just like "double-click" by microsoft)

So what might happen is that SD inc will be bought by a giant corporation probably...
