    Satellite pre-cache?

Is it possible to build a pre-chache feature for Satellite maps? Maybe down load all maps for a predetermined route or by state?

The cache is stored under My documents\StreetDeck\Virtual Earth

There are 3 sub folders under that for Aerial, Hybrid, and Road.

Under each of those sub folders is a folder named after the numeric zoom level. i.e. (10, 14, etc.)

In the number zoom level folder should be the files named exactly as how they are downloaded from the virtual earth terraserver.

This post will show you how to download tiles from the terraserver based on lat / longitude.

StreetDeck will only download a file if it is not in the cache so if you put the appropriatly named files in to the proper directory, it will use that file. This also means that if you wanted to draw your own maps or use maps from someplace else, as long as you name them correctly, StreetDeck will overlay them in Navigation.

I wish microsoft virtual earth had something like this:

    http://sketchup.google.com/

Google Earth V4. used it to create 3D buildings, but those KML files weight about 1-3 Mb vs. the old flat 1-100Kb wich will require high bandwith internet connection, because the resolution is now 1 meter/pix and some 5 centimeters/pix. (Thats almost enough to read licence plates on cars)

I've heard that someone from MIT wrote a perl script to fetch those images manually from the server for a specified area. I've used it awhile ago to create an oversized map.

    Also, any word on this:

Yesterday, Microsoft released a number of new things related to Virtual Earth and Windows Live Local including V3 of the Virtual Earth control, a new free Outlook Add-in the provides seamless integration with Windows Live Local, and a number of new features on Windows Live Local itself such as the ability to store and share landmarks.

Another major enhancement is the addition of real-time traffic data from traffic.com, see screenshot at left.
