I'm asking this because the scale factor of two maps (MapPoint and Virtual Earth) obviously is not the same - try to compare lenght of different segments of the roads...
I'll double check that, but if you look at the picture in my earlier post, you'll see the route line goes straight through the middle of a field. If you turn Virtual Earth off, the route goes exactly along the road - but the route marker line doesn't move. Does that make sense?
(edit)Just double checked, the zoom level in StreetDeck is set at exactly the same level for both images.

I'm sure this is something to do with the resolution of the satellite images (by which I mean metres per pixel. If the maps are from the same source as Google Earth, I'm sure that only the North American continent has high resolution (metres/pixel) images. Either that or one of the sources is mapped to inaccurate co-ordinates.

Let us know how you get on; it might just be that because I live in the middle of nowhere that the satellite images aren't good enough!

This version reset teh demo timeout so if you had problems, it will give you another try. It didn't fix anything about it though as I don't know what the problem is. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator the first time you run the new exe. If it still times out immediatly, it will log the exact reason why so send me the new log for it.

I presume the idea is to install SD and just replace the old exe with the new exe? If so, it's still saying 0 days left when I run it, and throwing me out saying my trial's expired....

I presume this is the line you're looking for in the log?:

INFO: DEMO EXPIRED: 0, NO SYS, NO USER

    Cheers Chuck,

    Bob

... hmm, strange, that worked for me.

Are you sure you've been logged in as an admin, while running this exe for the first time? I didn't experiment with non-admin user, but Chuck's had been warning about this.

Exclamation Virtual Earth map displacement (II)

Some results of playing around with overlapping MapPoint and Virual Earth maps:
    • The Virual Earth maps seems to be bound correctly to the coordinate mesh (or, at least, same way as MapPoint one)
not a big surprize though, 'cause NAVTEQ took its part in both projects
    • While perfectly matching the center of the displayed view, the scale of Virtual Earth maps is 30-40% larger than that of underlaying MapPoint map, thus producing effect explained by Flibblebot.
This has been checked for different areas (UK, Switzerland, USA, etc.) and Zoom factors and seems to be constant

Since nobody complained for such an effect while using MapPoint NA, looks like there is a difference in zoom factor of the MP Europe and NA maps.

It's on my company laptop - I've got full *local* administrative priviledges but not full domain priviledges.

I would presume local admin is fine - if domain admin is needed I'm screwed - I can't really justify my need to our power-mad IT dept.

I would not call your place (Ammanford) nowhere - it has the same res satellite images as London and US, while my nowhere (Bernese "Middle Earth") has images for resolution only above 12 (in SD units)

I don't think domain admin is needed - at least I wasn't when ran it

Are you sure it's right exe - size should be 3,870,720 bytes ?

    I got you.

I will see what I can tell you. This weekend I am going to drive from Belgium to Brittney. So at least I can give you some good data on northern France.

As long as you have access to system areas of your harddrive, it should work fine. Was that log data you posted from the very first time you ran streetdeck after upgrading the exe?

    Lightbulb Beta tests overview

    Hi, Chuck.

Wouldn't it be helpful for you if progress/problems found/discussed are being summarized here from time to time?

Replies count is going to reach 100 soon, so, I guess it would give you and people a better overview of tests performed, problems, opinions, requests, etc. (apart from problems of running SD beta itself).

    Someting like this:
    • "Country" field on address input screen
    • PO input
    • Display full text in list of found addresses
    • non-ASCII characters
    • Virtual Earth images scale is different from that of MapPoint
    • etc...

    What do you think?
