    Question on Playlist/Queues

I was able to try Streetdeck on one of my laptops. Seems like everything worked out well, however, I had a question. Is there a way to load a .m3u (mp3 playlist) IN ORDER?

If you add a playlist without the "Queue" option selected, then it will add the contents of the playlist, but they will be out of order, which is really annoying since I ordered them in a certain way on purpose.

If you add a playlist using the "Queue" option, then it will add the entire playlist in order, which is great, but the problem with this is: 1) once you play the song or select a new one, it the song you were previously listening to will disappear from the list, and 2) if you currently have a playlist or song loaded, it won't automatically switch to the new playlist.

So is there any way around this? Also, is there an option I can select such that the music starts playing immediately after I select a song?

    TIA

When not in queue mode, the only way to view playlists is alphabetically.

m3u files shouldn't be sorted at all and loaded as they are in the file.

So what you're saying is that regardless of whether or not I am in Queue mode, if I load an m3u playlist, it should open the playlist in the order I saved it? Thanks for your reply BTW. My order is scheduled to arrive today! (should have been here Friday, but UPS delayed it...)

I think I may know why I have this problem. When I originally created my playlists, I created/saved them in Winamp, which saves the m3u playlist in the following format:

    song1.mp3
    song2.mp3
    song3.mp3
    song4.mp3

However, I noticed that some of my playlists were modified after I exited StreetDeck, and they are now in the following format:

    #EXTM3U
    #EXTINF:0,song1
    song1.mp3

    #EXTINF:0,song2
    song2.mp3

    #EXTINF:0,song3
    song3.mp3

    #EXTINF:0,song4
    song4.mp3

I'm at work right now, so I can't test it out. But perhaps this is the cause of problems? Streetdeck may be just loading the songs in the .m3u playlist (created by Winamp), but since it is not in the WMP style, it is reordering them and resaving my playlist in the second format shown above? I'll try it once I get home and post my results.

No, if your not in queue mode the list will always be added and sorted alphabetically.

Is there any way around this? What if I wanted to play a single "CD" by an artist in the correct order? I understand that I can simply add that CD playlist onto the Queue, but the problem with the Queue is that once you listen to a song, it deletes itself from the Queue. So basically after I finish listening to a song, I can't go back to it, and once I am done with a CD, it won't go back to song 1 of the CD. If this is the case, then the "repeat" option is useless in Queue mode?

Anyone find a way to work with this? It's getting annoying trying to listen to albums in the proper order. I know I can't be the only one having issues since many albums fade from one track to the next. The way StreetDeck is ordering them (either alphabetically by Artist name or alphabetically by song title), you will be listening to say track #3 of an album, which is fading into track #4 of the album, but because of Streetdeck's ordering system, after completing track "3", it will go on the track #8 on the album! And it's bad for 2 reasons:

    1. Track 3 is slowly cross-fading into track 4, but then track 4 doesn't follow track 3

    2. Track 8 starts playing with cross-fades from track 7, but track 7 doesn't precede track 8

So basically it makes the songs transitions illogical and choppy.

I don't understand why SD does this. Why can't I load a PLAYLIST that I saved in the order that I saved it? For some reason, you can only do this while in "Queue-Mode". However, if you use WMP outside of SD, and you load a playlist, it actually loads it in the order I have saved the tracks! (yay!) So since SD basically uses WMP, why the heck does SD only give you two sort options in non-Queue mode:

    1. Alphabetically by Artist
    2. Alphabetically by Song Title

It seems like this should be a very easy fix. Currently SD is:

    A) Reading the playlist file
    B) Resorting the files by either artist or song title
    C) Playing back the playlist

If you just skip step B, which is resorting, then it should just play the files/songs from step A, which are loaded "correctly" since I put them in the right order. Can this be fixed so we have option 3:

    3. Load songs in the order saved on playlist

And in I know others probably have the same issue because albums by Linkin Park, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, etc. cross-fade from one track to another.

In my short time of experimenting, and dealing with several tens of crashes in the trial version, I have just about figured it out. The only thing is, everytime you switch a song, it deletes the song from the playlist. It follows the order of the filenames like it should, but it will delete the current track when you switch to the next song. Its fine as long as you want to just listen to an album once and never go back, but sometimes you might want to hear one song more than once, and you have to re-queue it. Which makes no sense.

But anyway, the way you get the playlist to work is...

Clear Playlist, Queue Music, Select Music, Local, Directory, (find your album and click it), Play All (files only), and it should now play in order.

But like I said, once you switch tracks, it deletes the track from the playlist.

If there's something else I'm missing, not sure what it is at the moment!

Yup, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I would happily use the Queue mode, but once you switch tracks, that song is automatically deleted from the playlist. And many times I like to listen to go back and listen to a track or repeat the album, but with queue mode this seems impossible since the track is deleted.

The part is bold summarizes my frustration, as I hate reloading songs while driving.

Music is getting a major overhaul. There will only be 1 mode and it will always queue. Songs will not be removed anymore. There will also be a Now Playing module with track ratings. You will also be able to create, modify, and remove playlists and have them load in order. All this has been implemented will probably be in the next update, 1.0.6.4, it won't be out until sometime after CES. Contingent on real world testing, some of the aforementioned features may not make it in, but they are all in the redesign at this point.
