    Question Questions about SD

I drive truck over-the-road, and have just tried out the StreetDeck demo - *NICE*

I have some questions about it before buying it though

1 - Demo mode - is there any way to try out the navigation mode in the demo? That is the biggest thing I need/want.

2 - POI database - I know you can import items. The question is can you add new categories, such as Truckstops, weight stations, etc? Also, when doing a POI search, will it look at the imported POI's?

3 - POI popups - Can SD 'pop up' to show you when you are in a certain range of selected POI categories? Such as to show me when I'm 10 miles from a rest area.

4 - Select which buttons to show on the home screen - Can you select what you want to actually use, instead of showing everything? For example, I wouldn't need the DVD or video player buttons. Mainly just Navigation, MP3, CD, and the Weather Add-in.

5 - Night-mode - Is there a button on the driving screen to switch back/forth between day and night mode?

I currently use CoPilot Truck 9, which does a pretty good job. However, I'd love to be able to use the computer for playing mp3's and such while driving.

    Thanks

If you have MS MapPoint2006 or Streets&Trips2006, then yes. StreetDeck uses the map data from Microsoft, which is included in either of those software packages.
Hint: S&T is the less expensive of the two.

That's all a function of the skin, which can be customized.

    Another function of the skin.

You can do that with what you're using now, although the interface isn't going to be clean & polished like StreetDeck. You just need to get the audio signal into your stereo somehow and use a media player of some sort (WinAmp, Windows Media Plaer, FooBar, etc.)

    I've got S & T 2k6 - How do you tell StreetDeck you've got it?

If you install it, SD should see the maps. That's what I did with MapPoint.

Nope - just did a re-install also - navigation mode is disabled

Don't see any settings to enable it either...

I have this in the current log:

    INFO: MessageBox:
    Navigation Not Available!
The navigation component is not installed or has failed to load! Please consult the program log for more details.
WARNING: CAppData::Exec - Unregistered module called (CNAVSettingsModule)!

Did you do the full install of S&T so that all the map data resides on the hard drive?
If so, I could very well be mistaken about the ability for SD to read the S&T data.

Yes - Streets & Trips is the full install on the hard drive (don't need to use the cd)...

i dont think SD works with S & T. I have both map point and S&T, SD could only recognize map point maps

Ok - that's what I was starting to think as well

Do you know anything about the POI importing (question 2)?
