I have the same isue with large video files.
I am running the 220.127.116.11 beta which seems to be working pretty well but haven't had a chance to load 18.104.22.168. I never really played any kind of video with the previous versions; however I had some Xvid files and was trying to load them up. I have an Infill and all the correct codecs, but when I try to play a file, it takes forever to load, almost a minute. I loaded these same files in windows media player and they launch pretty quick. Is there anything I can do to get these to load up faster? They loaded up so slow, the tray app thought SD was hanging and killed SD. I had to put the threshold up to the max, but even then, it takes so long to load that it looks more like a lock up. Thanks.
I messed with it a bit more and I realize what the issue is. SD generates a thumbnail image from the video file so if you have 30 files in a folder and you open the folder, SD wants to display a thumbnail for each file in the current view. The problem is it takes forever to do so and SD is completely unuseable while it does this. When it is finished though, the files run instantaneously.
It also seems like the thumbnail generated is not from the beginning of the file, but from different points, which may be why it takes so long. I personally like the thumbnails, but would gladly turn it off for better performance. Video quality is kind of dark and not as sharp also which is odd since it uses WMP and the files look great in WMP.
Streetdeck - shouldn't it cache video thumbnails?
