Nice work, any chance of some screen grabs to see what you did to the skins? Looking for inspiration to tweak...
Well, I bit the bullet and paid for streetdeck on Friday wanting to play with it on the weekend, bad thing is that the reg code didn't come until Monday.
I had been messing with other front ends and spent hours trying to get them tweaked right, downloading all the apps and plugins to make it right. I'm not much of an artist, so editing the skins was a bit of an issue for me.
I put my reg code in Streetdeck and.... that's it, everything worked except Navigation (and the modules I didn't have hardware for). I install MapPoint 2006 (already purchased a copy of this), started Streetdeck again and the Navigation setup screen started up. I plugged in my GPS, went through the setup and bam.. worked flawlessly.
I don't have XM, or a radio module, or car monitoring stuff that was default on the main page 1, but I do have pictures and videos, etc.. that were default on the main page 2.
I loaded up the dev tools, cut and pasted the modules from one page to another, re-aligned them and in about 10 minutes had my skin customized.
So (not including the Mappoint install time) I had a fully functional, very slick system in about 20 minutes, including the skin editing. I've yet to find anything that I'd want this to do that it doesn't.
Compare that with a not as slick, partially functional "free" front end that I had spent several hours messing with. When I sawy partially functional I'm talking about my setup, not the capabilities of the software.
I'm not at all putting down the "free" front ends, they're awesome! I just don't have time (or patience) anymore to tweak.. it used to be fun to me but I just want it to work now.
So.. was it worth $200? I'd have to say yes.
Even though I already had the mappoint maps I still spent well over $200 worth of time trying to get the other front ends to work.
If that's your hobby then by all means have at it and enjoy!
If not, then shell out the $200.
Showson1... I went through the same deal as you. I think SD is an awesome program, easy to use, plugins work great, and a very easy install. The updates that are pushed out are easy to install and the feedback on this forum is great! I too think it was well worth the $200.
Good post and always share your skins.
