    My SD frustrations

The longer I play with SD and the more I read this forum the more discouraged I become with SD. Initially when I seen my first screen shots of the interface I was completely wowed. It looked very promising. Before even reading the feature list I was ready to shell out the 200$ without reading any further. Thankfully my wallet was upstairs...

I am a computer tech like (I'm sure alot of users of this forum are) and I can live with the problems and use the workarounds... as I research the issues I find that alot of them are ended with, SD is aware of the problem and it will be fixed in the next version.... It seems as though the software isn't updated enough.... by that I mean,,,,,, SD seems to be waiting to do major releases rather than some smaller ones in the meantime ... address little issues at a time, release patches so those waiting on one little fix don't have to wait for the 'SP2' of SD.

    Anyone else feel the same!?

Your comments reflect the current situation and not the situation since the initial release of StreetDeck.

The only time that the developers have waited to do a major release is this time.

Hey, if music navigation is fixed, then I'm 90% happy. That other 10% I keep in reserve in case I find something else I need to complain about. ;-)

I am also a computer tech, but a noob to the carpc subject. I also had/have some frustrations with SD although a bit different then yours.

My biggest frustration was that, from seeing the demo (without the actual devices), and reading the published documentation, it looked like the project is complete with "n" amount of features, and now the developers team is just making things better, bigger, stronger, and faster.
What I have come to learn, is that a lot of features are simply not available yet. I kind of jumped into this quickly and within 1 month pretty much completed the whole project. Went out and bought the bluetoof, TV and radio tunners, etc. and that's where the frustration hit. I guess if it was noted somewhere that "it is what it is", or "this is working and this is not working yet, but we are working on it", I would've not have been as frustrated.

Having said all that, I have to say that I still chose SD and love it. IMO it's the best looking interface and potentially the best product out there. The Tech Support and Customer Service is like no other. Everyone in SD team I spoke with has been extremly helpful and went out above and beyond to assit. For that I want to thank everyone SD and MP3Car, you guys are doing a great job!!!

Again this is only my opinion.

I just looked at the SD website again (www.streetdeck.com), and there should be a better, more obvious feature list to prevent the sort of scenario you describe above. Note, I'm not saying that a feature list doesn't exist, because one does, but it requires lots of scrolling, etc. I think there should be a text-based list of "included features" and "features in development" at the TOP of the "Features" page.

Agreed. There isn't much else (commercially, anyway) out there like it.

yeah, I guess you are right... I didn't even think about the timeline, I was only thinking about the current situation.

    my bad.

That explains it, I only really started looking into carputers after the last release and since then, their haven't been any updates. Now that I've seen the history, I'm a little more comfortable with the product. Thanks.

That's exactly what I would like to see.

I counted 26 updates in 2006, including the quick fix ones. The devs have alot of work to catch up in 2007~!

Doesn't take away from how great the product is right now.

I have to admit that i really dont see most peoples issues with SD. So not everything works at the moment, but the threads are obvious enough to tell you what does and doesnt work...

I agree that more updates would be nice, but i would prefer that the ones released work correctly without bugs! And at the moment, the updates released do 2 things, 1) they fix the problem, 2) dont introduce more (with untested bugs)

Bluetooth would be nice, but im sure they will crack it in the next update.
