Off-topic: I took a screen shot of my supervisor's desktop (complete with icons and taskbar. I saved the screenshot as a .bmp and made it into his desktop's wallpaper. Then I hid all his icons and moved his taskbar to the top of the screen and made it auto-hide. The result is a desktop that appears to have all its icons and the taskbar but for some reason can't seem to open anything...

just to let you all know.... this works for neocar media center 0.7 beta 2.... I have tryed it today... works like a charm...

oh and btw hi, I'm new to the carputer scene... just installed my box this week... I have screenshots of the neocar working here www.cardomain.com/id/djfrost

Also works for RoadRunner, this is how I've been running my CarPC for months.

A quick note: For me, when bringing up the Task Manager, and using the New Task (Run...) feature, if I type explorer.exe or explorer, all I get is a browse window. It does not load the full explorer desktop etc.

Any ideas?

Try going to the New Task (Run...) feature, and entering "c:" (or another valid hard disk drive). You should get an error message and the shell should reload. I'm not sure if explorer.exe will load, though, or your shell - I've always used this trick on desktop computers.

We should add the way to kill the "windows scheme" (because nobody that is booting directly into the front end wants to hear those).

So the way to do it is going to control panel\sound and audio devices\sounds
and kill all the schemes (global ) by puting "no sounds" in the firts box or killing one by one in the second box.

Use Regedit to navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced

1.) Create new DWORD value, name it EnableBalloonTips
2.) Set it to 0.

If EnableBalloonTips is already there and equal to 1, set it equal to 0. Quit the registry editor, log off, and log back on. No more annoying balloon tips.

An easier way to do the auto login is to go to run and type "control userpasswords2". It will bring up a dialog box. Select the name of the user you want to log in and then uncheck "Users must enter a user name..."

Very simple and quick if you dont want to download TweakUI
