quick question: where did you get the box, where in canada can i get a similar one, and how much?

The black box is just a plastic box from Fry's Electronics. They're local to California and maybe Arizona and Nevada. But, it's a black project box. Most electronics stores (like radio shack) should carry them. If you're really stuck, I'll send one to you, but you'd probably pay more in shipping than the box cost.

Hey thanks for the DIY write up. 3 quick questions.

Can the existing monsoon harness be tapped into to?
Did you splice the wires together L and R or separate them with RCA Y cable?
Do you need a heat sink for this setup?

I agree... awesome write up. I am in the beginning stages of getting everything I need for my puter. Once that is accomplished, I will be visiting this thread again!

Yes but then you cant easily revert back to stock... its better to make a new harness...

The left side of the car is connected to the left and the right is connected to the right, no y spliter needed.

I havent been using a heatsink and have had no problems with my setup.

thanks for the reply. i plan on using t-taps on the monsoon harness so it just as easily goes back to stock and i'll save $20.

Thanks to you guys for posting this up and going through all the mess so we/I do not have to!!!! I am gonna be picking up these parts soon and testing it out with a simple portable player or laptop before implementing the rest.

I am sure I will be in touch or have questions when I see a waff of smoke and nothing works anymore. Dang VW gnomes.

Im planning on using this to connect to my monsoon amp. I am going to be using two of the three outputs (one for front left and right, and one for back left and right). I figure I will have better fade/balance control doing it this way. How do I go about injecting the power into the system now, because there will be two lines and four RCA's instead of the one line and two RCA's? I appreciate the help. Thanks.
