There are only 2 wires + and - for the adapter, it comes on when it has power and has no ignition wire. The only cable going from the usb adapter to the XMD unit is a mini din cable that provides the power and data.

Here is a picture explaining how I have things set up. My only options seem to be to have the XMD unit and the adapter always on or have them come on with the computer. They can not be turned on independently unless I want to cut the mini din cable and I do not want to do that.

I am not very worried about the power being unregulated because the adapter is able to handle an unregulated input, if it somehow gives me problems I will just get a regulator. I am just worried about draining my battery. I think I will experiment with it later next month to see how much the battery drains, I would do it now but finals week is coming up and if my car wont start I am screwed!

OMFG, your right.... I got confused, happens alot those days. I was getting the HD radio confused with the HD Radio. Let me research really fast, because now I have to look at my install and see how I did this. I dont want to give you incorrect information.

I have this setup and the way I have mine connected is...My mp3car adapter power (2 wires power and ground) wire is going to 12v constant wire (splice) on my M2ATX. I had it going to the 12v ignition wire on the M2ATX but sometimes I power my pc without using the vehicle's power (power converter) to do updates/testing in the house. I just need to rewire my HD radio to do the same thing.

It works fine for me.
