Actually I was debating about doing a slot load. But cutting that front plastic panel is hard enough and to get a clean look, and would be very difficult, but not impossible. I like this look just for the fact the plastic on the DVD drive door matches great, and looks like it came from the factory that way. But I think Xenarc was thinking about doing something like this, because the way 700IDT is built, it looks like they designed it for a DVD drive down the road.

But thanks everyone for the compliments And if anyone has question while there doing this, just pm me, I'll be around, and I'll try to help as much as I can.

That's very good work, better only with a slot-in drive...

Another member found this. Seems like a real nice cheap solution for you guys that have the IDT, and want a usb 2.0 compatible solution.

And from the looks of it, it should not have any issue interfering with the spring mechanism, just by looking at it.

Should be a nice solution, considering sources that sell these just hiked up the price from around 45-50 to 70+ for the same item not too long ago.

I know this is a somewhat old thread but I just followed it and wanted to show how mine turned out and thank the OP for this as it was a big help.. Only differences with mine is I used a slot load DVD-RAM drive, I didnt grind down those posts and I didnt remove the DC plug I drilled a new hole for my cables.. I am pretty impressed with the way mine turned out.. was a little scared at first to do this to a brand new LCD but said screw it..

Looks good. I put the one I did for this post in my Camaro. I just bought a new Dodge Ram last week, so I plan on doing the same, except I'm going to do the slot one also.

In case you're curious I used Panasonic UJ-85J for the DVD drive and that Slim to USB shown above and had absolutly no clearance problems leaving the 4 posts in tact.. In fact it helped keep the drive level in my opinion. I put 4 strips of the foam double sided tape in between the posts, and I took a decently thick rubber washer, cut it in half and took some good glue and glued the halves down right behind the drive to help hold it in place.. I was concerned the tape might not hold completely.
