Im confused about the processors, can this board use the T7300? It says Intel Core Duo(T2000 Seqence)/Core 2 Duo(T5000 & T7000 Sequence) processor. Also, why didnt you go with the 965 chipset?

I didnt go with the 965 because the 965 is much pickier with RAM timings. Also there is pretty much no gain in power or anything from using the 965 compared to the 945.


As for what processor, it supports Socket M. So it supports all T2xxx series chips (Core Duo/Solo), as well as Socket M T5xxx and Socket M T7xxxx (Core 2 Duo)

It does not support Socket P, which is what the newer Core 2 Duo chips are. So the question "will a T5500 work" is not answerable. You need to determine if you have a Socket M or a Socket P. This is useful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...icroprocessors

looking at it though, the 7300 is new, and therefore a socket P, and therefore not compatible...

I found that the biggest difference between the 945 and the 965 was that the 965 uses the X3100 onboard Intel graphics which are much more advanced than the GMA950 on the 945. The X3100 has programmable shaders and can do simple 3d fairly well.

Yes, but this a carPC, not a HTPC though. RoadRunner doesnt need pixel shaders.

I do not run any games on this. I run industrial strength applications. These programs dont need anything. Just more power, is faster.

I could not be happier with my little fuzzy board. 100% reccommend over that jetway crap.

I agree it is not too useful in a car (unless your front end is based off DirectX) but I thought it was worth mentioning. It may also affect someone's ability to get 800X480 to run on their LCD. Graphics driver crap...

I think MSI is a pretty good company...on par with Asus and Gigabyte.

I really wanted to use a T7300 though,.... Although I have been on here awhile, I am still somewhat of a newbie.... What do you mean by RAM timings? How would this affect the system, compared to the 945? I do not plan on running 3D graphics, but I do like the X3100 which got alot of rave for being very stable. I also like the fact that the 7.1 surround sound is built onto the board. It will allow me to ditch the soundblaster live USB, which suffers from annoying pops on startup. Also as stated before, I needed 2 VGA ports, one for headunit and one for the other 3 screens. I did notice that the 965 does not have a second VGA, Im simply going to get a ATI X600, and a PCI express extender and a riser card... all for about 50.00 dollars.

Your T7300 is a socket P. Impossible to stick in a socket M board. Just impossible. Not compatible at all.

By RAM timings I mean it has horrible reviews for being finicky with the RAM selections. The 945 and 965 in terms of stability for graphics, is the same. It is just marketing hype. Of course they arent going to say "well the 945 works just fine, but spend $200 on a new motherboard to buy this because it is marginally more power efficient...".

This board I am pretty sure can use DVI and VGA output seperately. With the C2D installed, I am sure it would be speedy enough for the car even using the onboard graphics. Maybe not for 1080i decoding for both screens at the same time, but high-def on a 7" screen is useless anyways.

Also for your speaker pop, that is just because your amp is turning on before the sound drivers are loaded. No matter what card you choose (onboard or offboard), and the drivers are loaded after the amp turns on, then you will get a speaker pop. And why do you need 7.1 in the car anyways? Most have 4.0 or 4.1 (4 speakers FL, FR, RL, RR) and optionally sub lines (all use the same channel).

OK, you sold me on the 945..... What processor do you recommend for the 945. I want it to be at least 2 GHZ.
I see they have the T7200, which is socket M. Why is it so much more then socket P? On newegg its 296.00.
