Software Review: Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition!

So if I am reading this thread right, my 32mb card is dead as far as mce2k5 is concerned?

Ok so now that I need a new card, what can I buy that works as good as my matrox marvel, slow card, but 100% stable with 2nd monitor composite out that _stays_ full screen when asked even if you crash something on screen 1.

Most cards I have tried have been nvidia (my friends nvidia mad he's a games player) never stay full screen on 2nd screen out(tv) if you start doing lots of work / mouse clicking on screen 1

Just try yours to see if it works. I'm read in forums people using 32MB cards successfully.

I've never tried to run it on two monitors. I used a GeForce4 MX 128mb from eVGA. Cheapest card I could get with DVI out. Think it was like $55. It has VGA, DVI and Svideo out. I'm sure you could run two monitors with the VGA and DVI. Not sure what happens when you try using the VGA and Svideo at the same time. I was very happy with it but ended up going with the GeForce4 with DVI that was on my motherboard. Which works just as well AFTER I changed the onboard video from 32mb to 64mb.

BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE NVIDIA MCE DRIVERS!

You should try Media Center 2004. Its not much different.

I dont get an error, just video playback doesnt work within the media center gui. it works with media player (standalone)

It is the real reason for screen savers. If you leave an image on a screen for long enough that image will create an silhouette and will be present at all times. Hence the term "burn in". It burns the image into the display. Not as common as it used to be but it does happen. Search "Jurasic AND lilliput" on these forums and you will see what I mean.

Also plasma tv's can be burned. But I'm not sure this is the reason for the moving background. Think about it, why move the background but not the menu icons? it's the icons and station ID's like the CNN icon in the lower righthand corner that are going to do the most burning, or at least show up the most. I've got the feeling it's for looks more then burn.

has anyone tried using media center on a laptop?

I have a C600 with a onboard 8MB video card.......

runnig on my compaq p3 433 runs ok
laptop came with ME yuck!
switch to xp pro ran ok but couldn't use volume or scroll buttons
switched to media center 2004 and now volume works but still no scroll
run a little faster with mc , but any version of xp will be too slow imho.

I got a question....what does MCE look like on a laptop/notebook?

Anyone know where i can find screenshots?
