I mean is it a similar interface to XP on a laptop? Or does it look the way it does on a TV?

I'm not sure I understand your question...It would look like anything else GUI related. Can you explain you question a little more?

Can you install normal programs on it i.e. Photoshop?
Werdna
look at is like this... MCE is basically a APP running in Windows XP....so whatever u can run on XP will work with MCE...its the same ****...just with the added MCE interface
How do you get to them from the interface??
Is there a start menu or summit?
Werdna
let me clerify, MCE is like running a front end, or any other program if you move your mouse you get the normal three butons in the top right corner "minimize" "re-size" and "close" once minimized you get your desktop, start menue and all that. its just another program that comes up to display your t.v.
Life Dosn't come with a reset button, if it did you might as well turn the game off.
Ah..... sorry.... i was getting confused by all the stuff i was finding on the net.
Cheers for un-confusing me.
