1. The crashing could be related to the "Create GPS Trail" feature. Next time, when on a long trip, try not to use that feature. Alternatively, you may turn off and then turn on that feature once every hour. Periodic saving would likely achieve the same result (no-more-crashing).

2. If you are familiar with the area, you may "block roads" by using the "Avoid Area" tool. Draw a rectangle with your mouse to cover the area you wish to avoid, and then right-click inside the rectangle and select "Avoid Area". Alternatively on the menu bar go to Route > MoreOptions > Segments > PreferredRoads > PreferredRoadTypes, and there experiment adjusting likes/dislikes for different road types.

I bought S&T 2006 with GPS puck for $105 off of Amazon in Dec of 05. I recently used it on a 300 mile trip to new hampshire and was very happy with the results. It does take more input from the user (IE, when you make a pit stop) to get running again, but overall, it does the job.

I have also been using iGuidance 3.0 and, to compare the two, I would have to say this:
- MS S&T looks gorgeous compared to the "Fisher Price: My First Navigation Software" look of iGuidance (don't you ******es steal my line)
- iGuidance takes much less input from the user to get going after a pit stop.
- iGuidance doesn't complain when you're off route. it simply re-routes automatically w/o you having to do anything
- iGuidance has an on-screen keyboard (perfect for touch-screen use) while you have to use the Microsoft on-screen keyboard with S&T. I dislike the MS Onscreen keyboard because it eats up resources like a mofo on my tablet laptop.

Overall, for interface looks, I would go with S&T. For an awesome driving view but with a whack looking gui, go with iGuidance.

I was playing with S&T 2006 the other day and i noticed that many of the way point in my area are way out dated and most have the wrong names or are in the wrong location. Is there a way to update the maps? I found the update road conditions but not maps yet. I just installed it and have not gotten to far into it yet.

Try the new 2007 version. The map data there is one year newer.
