Thread: AyAy Sir Ti-GPS?

i tried with iguidance and destinator both, same results. i posted another thread, and it seems like a 1Hz refresh rate is about normal

I took a trip to Atlanta last night, and paired my AyAysir receiver with my newly acquired Iguidance software and was extremely happy. The refresh rate was as stated by hari-bhari, anout once a second, but that only put me ahead of the receiver on the highway at about 80 mph. Everywhere else it was pretty much dead on. In downtown Atlanta it never lost lock until i went under the runway at Hartsfield int. Airport and then immediately regained signal on the other side. It also held plenty of signal amongst the tall buildings in the downtown and when passing through Spaghetti Junction. All in all i am quite pleased.

Has anyone else got anything good or bad to say about these units as I'm considering to buy the bluetooth version.

ive got the usb version, its pretty awesome. i get 10-11 satellites locked on the hwy.

The performance sounds similar to the BU353 that I used to have. Has anyone compared this GPS with the BU353 or with another Sirf3 unit?

I recently purchased a Holux GR-213, which I'm not very happy with. I wish I had kept my AyAy.

I should be getting mine AyAy in the next few days..Can't wait

Well I finally got mine and I must say the packaging was great. I've yet to power it up, but hope to do so very soon.

One thing that puzzles me is that the doco states that it's a Sirf2 but i was told that this is wrong and it's a Sirf3? How do I confirm this?

Compared to the delou, it locks from cold much more quickly, it maintains lock much better, it has a stronger lock signal on the satelites it locks onto, and typically has about twice as many locked satelites as the delou.. especially in low signal conditions.

I brought it inside to test it out.. I wasn't expecting much, since the delou barely sees any satelites, and never locks any of them.. even when its beside the window. This is just sitting on my bedpost beside my computer desk, which is about 12 feet from the only window in the room. It wasn't open, is regular sized, and the blind was even drawn!

I'm really impressed with this unit, the reception is terrific, it works flawlessly, even in thick urban areas.. (I couldn't test how foilage affects it, since its winter here). The build quality of the unit is great too. Solid metal construction, the size of a credit card, and a good finish.

I have no reservations recommending this unit to anyone.
