I didn't find the protective plastic film made a big difference. I suppose if you put them side-by-side you'd see the film will make the image a little more dull. If left on I would suspect the plastic film may turn a yellowish color (UV does this sometimes). Not to mention it may leave a sticky residue on the TS itself when you do finally take it off.

Keep in mind that technically anything touching the screen can affect calibration. Especially if it's cold and the temperature changes cause the film to expand/contract. Just a thought.

I too have one of these screens and agree with many of the observations above. I had the issue with the cursor floating up towards the top right, and finally worked out what was going on last night (mine started working properly after about 5 minutes of being switched on which confused me somewhat - heat related I guess). I just loosened the internal screw which clamps the panel in place, but I'm sure there is a better solution.

I've also had lots of problems with the touchscreen not working after hibernation in windows XP (tried lots of different Touchkit versions). I've currently loaded the PC with Win2k and that seems to be a bit better. Will test further.

Question about the plastic film on the screen - I looked at the touchscreen assembly itself (dissassembled the unit) and noticed that there was some kind of plastic film covering the glass but I assumed this was the touchscreen itself. Is the touchscreen just the glass part or should it have something stuck to it? Mine has come away slightly at the top left corner, and I also managed to put a few scratches on it using the stylus -

. I'd like to remove this film if possible.

The plastic film is just a protectant during shipping. I ripped mine off after the second day.

Yeah, I removed the film on mine too now.

However, I cannot get the touch screen to work reliably whatever I try. It still fails to resume most times after a hibernate (seems to depend on how long I leave it after going into hibernate). If I resume almost immediately it always works. Leave it overnight - no go.

I even tried giving up on hibernate and doing a full reboot each time I start the car (pretty slow on a VIA M10000), and sometimes that even fails to bring the touchpanel back from the dead.

I have tried all of the drivers I can find for it (from Egalax etc), including the latest XP beta which (according to the release notes) fixes the resume from hibernate problem!

I guess the only thing left to try is to use one of the utilities which disable the panel before hibernate, and reenable it upon resume. Not very confident about that working though.

To top it all off, now the screen loses its green (i.e out of RGB) after a few minutes usage

Really starting to get fed up with all this!

Well I finally finished my carpc install after having two failed motherboards and a bad hard drive. Now that I have my epia m10000 and new hd, everything has worked flawlessly. The 700H looks great and has been working since I plugged it in. I'm using TouchKit drivers and it recognized it right away, just had to calibrate once. The only problem I have now is interference when the screen is on black, it has lines and noise all in the screen. I'm sure it has something to do with the VGA extension, I'll have to figure that out soon.

Austin, I too have an M10000 and have lots of problems!

Any chance you could let me know...

1. What BIOS version you have on your M10000.
2. Which version of the Touchkit driver you are using.
3. If you use hibernate.

Ya, I'll check tommorow, keep on top of me or i'll forget. i'm almost positive it was the latest version of the touchkit drivers, which i slipped streamed with nliteos. Its running XP SP2 without hibernate. I've been doing full shutdown and bootup and its worked amazing, it boots in probably 30 seconds into the dash which is fine with me. I want to do hibernate I just don't have a mouse or keyboard in the car to mess with settings. My brother just gave me an awsome mouse and keyboard though, he ordered it from woot.com and it is a gyration mouse meaning it doesn't need a mouse pad, just point and aim where you want it to go. Its great but pretty much useless when the touchscreen works fine. Remind me again if I dont respond tommorow and I'll get all the info you need. The touchscreen is running through a powered usb hub if that makes a difference. During the setup it had to be directly connected though, it couldn't go through the hub. Once drivers were installed I hooked it up through USB hub and it worked fine.
