well I can't get the emulator to save a saved state file, it creates pocketpc.dess in c:\ but the file doesn't work, anyone fancy sharing their .DESS file?

you can skin the emulator, but why would you want to if its embedded in a front end

And if I'd gone to all this trouble and actually got it working I wouldn't want to skin the TomTom bit, as I'd want every ****er in the world to see that it WAS TomTom running on a PC.

I've tried just to use the emulator's window name in RR so that it embeds it, but it locks up everytime I try that.

I know that someone one here built a plugin for cf once (coolcow I think). would be good to hear from anyone that's managed to embed it into RR. I know that the emulator can accept keys, so it should be possible to create macros from RR buttons that would make it easier to quickly navigate by postcode for instance.

john, did you sort your issues out with the dss file? if you do use someone else's file, then dont' forget you'll also need the storage card directory they used, and for it to be on the same drive letter they used, as well as the serial port to be in the same place. you may get an error and the option to change them if they're not found. I've not tried it, but I wouldn't bank on it.

    Sama,

from your comments it seems as though the emulator window cant be embedded in RR. Can you however run it on top of RR as a standalone app. What I mean is, point the GPS button in RR to open up the tomtom link that currently resides on my desktop (created as per your initial instructions). I tried creating a batch file but it cant seem to recognise any directories which have spaces etc and so wont run, any help would certainly be appreciated.

Oh, and of course, thanks for the wonderful work, I have the emulator and running on my home pc quite nicely with tomtom installed, i do however seem to be missing all the petrol station poi's and all the restaurant poi's. once i get hold of them, how do i go about installing them?

    thanks,

    Amit K

hey. I just start tomtom from the desktop using a shortcut. it's not the best solution but it does the job.

as for POI's, you just drop them into the same directory as the map, and then enable them using the POI menu in the preferencces.

    Cheers

    Yipee!

    I got it working!

Can't get any sound out of it now though EDIT: Sound seems to be working now, don't know what I did

Had a right toil! My Holux GR213 has been stuck in SirfMode but I took a dremel to it on saturday and ripped out the backup battery, froze it overnight in the freezer, and eventually it reset so I could use it in NMEA mode at 4800

TomTom seems to run pretty sweet on my Insight P4 2.4, so that might have to be stuck in the car instead of the SP13000

Not managed to get it in a front end yet though - Trying to get it embedded in RR & CF today...

    Great tutorial!

I've got it working, TomTom Navigator 6 on a 1.3 Centrino/1 Gb Ram laptop. And it runs smooth! I'm using a Navilock Sirf 3 (Globalsat) USB GPS mouse.

    My experiences:

    - Works great with even the lowest memsize (64mb). As a matter of fact I don't think the memsize really matters.
    - Don't set your port mapping, you'd better map your com ports every time you restart the emulator.
    - The installation was very very very very (did I say very?) very slow. It looked like the emulator was frozen from time to time.
    - I'd copied the files to the fake SD first and installed it from the emulator. I haven't used Active sync

Now I need a Xenarc screen and a dedicated lapopt

John, any updates on embedding it? I think someone will need to write some VB code to us the emulator.

the other option could be to use a skin that doesn't have any borders or edges, and make the window always be in the same place. this will probably prove annoying though when you want to use the music screen as the window would either have to be on top, or to disappear.
