That could be a problem then... There is only one input available on the used DAC. It does sound strange that the play-back and recording devices would need to be on the same soundcard as they are both treated separately by windows.
What software/hardware do you use for phone functionality?

A solution would be to use an extra (cheap, small) USB soundcard for the XM sound input. You would need a mic pre-amp too though, as the input is line-level.

Right, they are treated separately by Windows, and that's exactly the problem. The latency in phone conversations is a result of the fact that you are using two soundcards (your regular USB audio soundcard, and a USB mic...) the mic itself IS a soundcard as far as Windows is concerned. There is an arbitrary drift in timing when recording from one soundcard and outputting to another, which leads to a horribly annoying latency when trying to hold a conversation with someone. So to avoid the issue, I have to make sure my mic (regular 1/8" mic) is plugged into my audio soundcard. That goes into the mic jack, and the XM unit goes into the Line-in jack. Unforunately, the USB mics out there are WAY better for BT conversations than pc mics because of their ability to do noise cancellation much better than regular cruddy pc mics. So it's a tradeoff, either you have a USB mic that does a great job with noise reduction but have a bad delay in the conversation, or, you get rid of the echo by using a regular mic plugged into your soundcard, and hope that the software/hardware you're using has some sort of noise cancellation/reduction built into it.

I don't think it's possible to get a separate sound card for XM because the Recording line of Windows mixer is already taken up by the inputs on my audio soundcard.

Sounds like some trial and error is in order. I guess it's the combination of different drivers, because the input and output of the same soundcard are treated as 2 devices by windows too.

This sounds like an awsome idea. As it goes this is just what i think i am looking for. I was in a car audio fitters shop today and many people come in with headunits and subs amped up not competition just normal and after listerning to theres they all seemed so much louder and bassyer than my system. I am currently runing a computer on board sound card coming out of 3.5 jack to RCA convertor from there i run up to my 1st amp which is a 800 watt mono block about 350 RMS this then goes to my 15" vibe sub which is 1500 watts, 500 RMS i no the amp under powers it but was all i could afford at the time. Then out of this amp i have RCA outputs so i went into a second amp which is also 800 watts but its a 4 channel and these are linked up to 4 vibe 2 way componets at 320 watts max 175 RMS. dont get me wrong my system is loud but for a 15" it doesnt drop low tones like it should be or sound no where near as loud as a 12 linked up to a headunit i have thought this for a while but not really took any noticed then as i say i whent to this audio shop and everything there was just blowing my system away and mine should be blowing theres away. So i am just wondering with this device will it be able to be linked to an amp so that you can come out of usb to this device to give you simlar to a headunit amplification of 40x4 output then out of this device into my amps. So that hopefully my system starts giving me the performance it would on a headunit? If so then i will most definitely have one of these of you when you finnish them.
