does the hd radio have an am mode thats works well?

i love having the headunit there in my setup. its a physical volume control completely separate from the pc, the electronic equalizer in it is top notch, and it basically turns a 'usually' working audio system into 100% reliable, at least some functions. the most embarrassing thing would be me showing off my 'cool' carpc only to have it not work for whatever reason, and be left with a silent car ride. that just wont happen when you keep a regular headunit in there.

yeah, and as soon as you say that, the other half of me wants the HD radio inside the computer just because its 10x more awesome that way then some 'stock' gear.... i think what will happen depends on cost as it usually does... i know the hd radio for the computer is $25 for the cable and at least $75 for the radio. a new headunit would be twice that price unless i find a good used one.. so if i cant, then computer hd radio it will be.

Keep a lookout on ebay. Mine was around $30 for the HD unit and I've seen them as low as $15. I was listening to mine today in my car and must say it is nice to have radio again.

I got my Directed unit and cable together for $55 shipped on Ebay from another guy who used to have a carputer. Though here in Rochester there aren't any good stations in HD, and I keep forgetting to check out other areas when I travel there, so I haven't hardly used the radio at all.

HELP!!!! hopefully one of you guys can help me out.
Finally after long waiting I recieved my Directed unit and couldn't wait to install in my car ('03 BMW 3series).
After hooking everything up, I immediately gave it a try using the original cable that came with the unit. And now my problem..... the signal bar shows full strength, yet I don't get any stations. Please note that I'm using this unit in the Netherlands and we don't have any HD stations, but nevertheless, it should tune in to some analog stations..... I've already tried a second Directed unit i had, but no succes, please help.. this is really my last step in finalizing my install...

    Sorry for not being clear..
I've got everything wired correctly, even have your cable working.
My favorite stations are on a odd frequency, so that can't be the issue.
I have audio coming through. On some frequencies i can hear voices/music far far away (extremely poor quality).
I did read about radio frequency interference on a different forum. Could this be the case? If so, are more people experiencing this and is there a solution? Like I already mentioned, i have got 2 directed units and both have the same issue.
