no, that powers it off, and we dont want to do that in CF, it would ruin the user experience, switching from sources need to be instant

ok thiers alot of posts in this thread so i dont know if this was already covered and i missed it but i need help.

i have had my car pc for about 7 months now with no real issues except the radio gets almost no stations. i have tried 2 different antennas and 2 different directed radios and a antenna amplifier. i do get some stations but only barely and only like 2. the main station i listen to i cant pick up. i can pick it up in my truck on the stocksystem almost a 100 miles away so i know the station has a strong signal. any one have any suggestions?.

my setup is powered by m2 atx running xp. the radio is only about 8-10 inches from the pc which is mounted on a board right in next to the power antenna so the antenna cable is pretty short. with the antenna fully extended fullly i can get 1 station but its hit or miss. with it down i get nothing but static.
i dont just suck at spelling i also suck at typing.

I have basically the same problem. My Toyota has 2 antennas that provide diversity to the stock radio. I have one connected to my after-market Kenwood deck, the other to the Visteon module. Neither picks up as well as the stock radio. There is an amp which I have powered, and I've tried swapping the antennas but it didn't make much difference. I also tried one of those hot-rod "hidden" antennas but it was worthless.

Nothing does a good job replacing a metal aerial sticking up from your car IMO. The lower version of my van does have a real metal antenna on the front fender, and I've considered drilling a hole and putting one there. I've also been thinking about getting one of those smaller antennas you see on many car roofs now, but to be honest I just don't care enough to go to all the trouble to find a good one, drill the roof, run the cabling, etc. It's just easier to stream a station over 3G if I really want to listen to it.

If anyone has a suggestion though I'll check it out.

try it with out the pc being on, use the supplied ugly display...
also... is the oem antenna amplified... you done mention what kind of truck
but if it has an amplified antenna system, that has to have power...
    -Thanks

ok i took my xtra directed unit and hooked it up in my house useing the ugly display and one of the antennas i tried in the car. it worked fine just like it should. so im guessing my problem is my install could the radio be to close to the pc. it will be a pain in the *** but i could move it aslong as i can use a serial extension cable. moveing the pc at this point is not really a option with all the cables run and everything mounted.

yes!!!! THE PC AND its powersupply and RFI nightmares!!!!

i would put tuner, where oem radio was... and do not extend antenna any
and then extend the rs232 or make sure you get a wired straight 8 pin mini din extension
    -Thanks
