I need desperate help with my Directed unit.
I have tried everything to get my pc to control it with mitch's cables.
the unit works fine and I get audio through my line on on my PC when I use the supplied interface module.
I have just reformatted my PC with Win 7 Ult. 32bit. I made sure that the Usb/serial cable was the first one installed and set it to COM1. I cannot get the HD Radio PCR to find the directed.
I have told it to look on COM 1 and still no luck.
I have it wired:
yellow = constant
red = Ignition
Black = ground
I have heard to run the IGN off of the constant as well but I cannot afford to have a dead battery as a result.
I do not Have an extra 12v to run the red line off of.
Please help. It's the only thing not working on my new setup.
If it works with the supplied interface module, your problem is not the power wires. The problem is probably the Serial-USB adapter. Either it's not compatible or the drivers aren't installed correctly.

also.. u might want to consider red to constant, not ignition, if you do plan pc control of this device, and use hibernate or suspend, the bottom line is, the unit has to have power, when the PC has power, and ignition is NOT a good choice
the power is controled via the rs232 cable...
The adapter taht I am using is a Manhattan with prolific 2303. Windows sees it just fine and says that the device is working properly on COM 1.
I can controll the unit from the supplied interface remote and unplug it, which leaves the audio going. As soon as I plug in your cable it turns off and can't get it to turn back on.
What is a serial usb that you know will work in windows 7 that I can pick up locally?
I will rewire the HD radio if I know for a fact that it will not kill my battery. It is pretty easily done.
I am using Prolofics latest driver instead of the one that comes with the cable. I am going to try the one off of Manhattan's site.
the cable controls the power... if the pc says off to the tuner, its off, and wont kill your battery...
prolific should work fine, it might be the unit itself... say not supporting DTR
i dont know...
id assume it would work... but some of the really cheap ones dont (under $20)
you can test, with bray's terminal
open the comport, and click on the dtr... that should make the tuner click on/off
Ok, I tried the terminal trick and connected to ths port and clicked dtr....nothing. What adapter will work with win 7 for sure. Dont want to fiddle with this anymore. I just want it to work.
im a bit shocked... that one dont work
try on another PC, and dont touch the default comport it makes...
Yeah then second cable I had laying around ended up using the ftdi drivers but still didn't work, it was only an $8 cable though from sabrent.
Here are the ones I'm using:
I realize that they are both pretty cheap but I haven't got a lot of money left and this is the last snag in the pc. Ugh, it's just annoying.
Thanks for all of your help Mitch, I know it is just me trying to cut corners because of cost. I will try it on my wife's netbook when I get home.
