    blk02si is right. Audi A4.

This combo definitely out performs the silabs unit I previously had. If I was living in an area where reception wasn't a problem, I would have been content w/ the silabs.

I need to do some more research on a fm booster.

While it's nice to have good audible radio again, I'd like to get the most out of this system.

    audi... that explains it...

alot of new cars have antennas that ideally can only be used with the factory radio, because of special amplifaction circuitry, that car for sure is one. now for a while companies made little interfaces that you connect to the antenna, then to the power antenna lead of the aftermarket radio, to enable the amplifers in the on glass or stubby antennas

WV was the 1st company to use this technolgy

i would not use a FM booster, they cause issues too

Interesting, I'll have to watch for this when I install my HD radio as my 04 chrysler 300m has an "in glass" antenna in the rear window. Might you have a link or name of these adapters for aftermarket radio's, mitch? I'm looking to do as seemless and transparent install as possible. An aftermarket (antenna like that pictured above) stuck to the glass would kind of ruin that concept...........

I stuck the antenna in the trunk on the rack I use to hold the carPC.

There was no difference in the radio signal...at least to me, on glass or in the trunk.

I drove through areas where I knew I couldn't get a radio signal and it worked just fine for me.

I figured as much. The results I got switching out the OEM HU w/ the aftermarket repeatedly support your statement.

    Hey guys,
I was looking at buying one of the Visteon radios on ebay, and found this site selling them today only for $60+$5 shipping. I've never bought from them, so no idea how reliable they are:

So who actually does the soldering, Geddy Lee?

I tried that link, finally taking the time to read the thread, and take the plunge, and I don't think it's right.

Looking at his original link (or something closer):

It appears he is out of them or...it actually looks more like they are discontinued (for someone who didn't know better, going to his site).

    Any word? It's Christmas-time, and I'm anxious.

As this is an open forum, I would have assumed that when he read that post he would be able to reply to it if he had an answer. If I ask in a general sense, I'm also asking for other people's replies - hence a greater chance of information being supplied faster. If I had only asked Mitch, then other users (who may have helpful information for me) may not intercede.
