Thread: HD Radio Cables READY!

some interesting information regarding the reception issues i've had....

i hooked up the face plate to my hd radio tuner because my computer is outta the car for repairs.. the reception is 1000% BETTER than when its connected to the computer. This basically means there are 3 things that could be affecting my reception.

1. mitch's cable
2. the computer.... in the trunk.. as far as it can be from the tuner as can be
3. the monitor.. which current sits right in front of the tuner

my best guest would be the monitor.. BUT keep in mind the tuner has been installed in the trunk prior and i had the same problem.. in fact it was worse. So help me out guys.. what could it be now that i KNOW its not an actual antenna issue.

maybe something in the display is telling the main unit to throw a switch (transistor/ relay/etc) which (in addition to another function) does something, which I expect is similar or related to why we have to ground the RCA's.

Hmmmmm....I've tried it with and without the controller that comes with it,and either way the rca's sound like crap without being grounded.Still,there might be something in the controller that may have something to do with the reception.
Mine's pulling in stations great either with the cable or the controller.

ok this may be a silly question but, how do I set this up. I connected it to the com port and could not get it setup, so I used a serial to usb adapter to connect it to the pc. (got that to work) I installed the software. (radio is working fine). Now what do I change RR to get it to work in the software?

My unit sounds crystal clear with the facepate or the PC controlling it. No difference whatsoever with the faceplate. The interface port has nothing to do with reception.

Um, "damn it" was, perhaps, a tad unnessesary..................

At any rate, grounded the RCA's as per your posted instructions, no change at all.

Poor reception, low volume. Same as before.

Still troubleshooting..............I'll update if I find a solution.

It must be a problem somewhere in my setup or install as it seems to be working fine for most, some even without the RCA modification.

where do you have your tuner installed? I'm thinkin its interference from the monitor... my monitor case is hacked up and there could be an issue there

Mine is mounted under my bolt in carPC (pics in sig link)

Its within inches of my carPC hardware

I plug the OEM antenna directly into the tuner (no extensions or adapters)

I did the grounding mod.

Also I use my on-board sound input and I get sound output from all 4 speakers.
